I may have solved the mysterious mud puddle earthworm patterns. Hypothesis in the ALT.

a driveway puddle with fine silt at the bottom of the water area and gravel on the drier edges. There are intricate lines etched on the puddle silt, like what earthworms leave behind after a rain storm, but no earthworm in sight. Today we have our final clue: it has been really windy AND there’s a leaf on the edge of the puddle, its stem conveniently at the end of one of the main lines. I’d guess as the leaf was blown around the puddle the stem, being heavier, was touching the silt on the bottom. Enough wind and the leaf moves, dragging the stem along and leaving chaotic markings. Where the water is really shallow even the curved tips of the leaves would scratch the silt.

I love interesting tree #bark. These are two very different old growth trees & their unique bark #textures
#Arbutus / #Madrona & Western Red #Cedar.

The bottom layer is pale green, transitioning to brown and then into a pattern of wavy, dark blue-black lines. A section of rough, white runs vertically along the top left.
