Today I learned that an arena is called an arena because when warriors were jousting in old amphitheaters like The Colosseum, they were fighting on a wooden floor with sand on top — likely because sand makes cleaning up blood a lot easier — and sand in latin is “harena”, which later became “arena”.
So the next time you go to an arena to see a concert, you may be going to an amphitheater with a sandy floor… Or if not, the arena is really not an arena in the original sense of the word.

Wer bei der Migration reinkommen sollte und bei wem ein dickes Fragezeichen hochpoppt sollte neu diskutiert werden.

Today I learned that #Fangoria (the Spanish #ElectroPop duo, not the US horror magazine) is a thing. How did I miss these two in the 80’s? How did I not catch on when younger Mexican & Puerto Rican bands were releasing songs that were actually Fangoria covers? There must be an army of Queer Latinos worshipping at the altar of Alaska (their goth/draggy lady lead singer, not the US goth drag queen). I plan to make up for lost time & delve into their discography as I do my chores this weekend. #TIL
