Within hours of another "yippy" #Treasury #Bond auction, the #US #Congress approved sweeping task cuts (mostly to rich folk).
In the secondary market the 30-year treasuries are now past 5%. Pressure mounts on the #Housing market.
Over at the #FT a random commentator put it sharply: "It's going to be a Big Beautiful #Bankruptcy."
…the downgrade essentially warns investors globally not to lend money to Washington at such low interest rates. The yield on the 10-yr #Treasury climbed to 4.49% from 4.43% late Fri. That shows how much in interest the US govet has to pay in order to borrow money for 10 yrs, & it was briefly above 4.55% earlier Mon morning.
Perhaps even more joltingly, the yield on a 30-yr Treasury leaped back above 5% before receding, up from less than 4% in Sept. That’s a significant move for the #bond market.
Expelling experts is making Americans sick & unsafe.
“Across the federal government, DOGE’s push for early retirement and voluntary separation is fueling an exodus of experienced, knowledgeable staffers unlike anything in living memory, according to longtime staffers.”

#Trump’s #memecoin dinner has drawn criticism from congressional Democrats, some of whom said in a letter Wed to #Treasury Secy #ScottBessent that the lack of identification for coin holders could allow “bad actors, including #authoritarian governments & companies they control, to enrich the Trump family” & gain #leverage over Trump’s #policy decisions. Sen Chris Murphy (D-CT) told WaPo that the coin was “the most corrupt thing a president has ever done.”
Following oral argument at the US Court of Appeals for DC this afternoon in National #Treasury Employees #Union v. #RussVought, a case in which the court is considering whether the #Trump admin’s efforts to unilaterally shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (#CFPB) are constitutional, Constitutional Accountability Center Equal Justice Works Fellow Anna Jessurun issued this:

After roughly 7 hours of talks on Saturday, the #US said it would not release any formal statement about the proceedings.

It’s hard to imagine anyone more uncomfortable than Scott Bessent.
What’s it like to destroy yourself in public, Scott?
“Who pays #tariffs Mr. Secretary?”
During a congressional hearing on Tuesday, Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) was clearly unsatisfied w/the stumbling nonresponse from #Treasury Secy #ScottBessent.
#Bessent stammered, eventually telling #Pocan, "It's a very complicated question."
Hmmm. Is it really?
