Steely Dan - Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More
I gotta stop; this is the last one. Apt in its weird colonist view of the narrator? Something's so off, and yet I do love this louche song. The strange thing is that both dudes grew up around NYC, but they sound like aliens when they write about the people there.
Driving like a fool out to Hackensack
Drinking his dinner from a paper sack
He says I gotta see a joker
And I'll be right back
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
And they wandered in
From the city of St. John
Without a dime

Reading through all the #TuneTuesday posts and there A LOT of songs about New Orleans
and also a disproportionate # of songs about or mentioning Denton, TX. Why Denton? LOL
Killer slide guitar by Rick Derringer, pretty much the heart of this song, the lyrics are terrific but they could be nonsensical and the song would still have the crazy groove, RIP. #TuneTuesday

GODDAMN this is a great song. Study its lyrical progression and character notes. It sweats and glows.
Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne
Every A-Frame had your number on the wall
You must have had it all
You'd go to L.A. on a dare and you'd go it alone
#TuneTuesday #LondonCalling did anyone do

yet? Always been the original name-check-all-the-cities song to me.
Steely Dan - Reelin' In The Years
I spent a lot of money and I spent a lot of time
The trip we made to Hollywood is etched upon my mind
Steely Dan - Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me)
An evening with a movie queen
A face we all have seen
Brooklyn owes the charmer under me
Gang, I'm just going to pelt the fediverse with The Dan today.
Steely Dan - Glamour Profession
The glamour profession
The L.A. concession
RIP Rick Derringer, fabulous guitar player on this and many other songs. #TuneTuesday

Well I should know by now
That it's just a spasm
Like a Sunday in T.J.
That it's cheap but it's not free....

My pick for #TuneTuesday #londoncalling is a bit of a throwback - 1978’s “Lihue” from Noelani Cypriano. I used to live in Lihue 20 years or so ago - it’s a tiny town on the island of Kaua’i, maybe 7.5k people, and Noelani’s a local auntie. I’d hear this song on the local radio playing in the background at places like Hamura’s saimin shack.
Imagine my surprise then when I heard it playing one night softly in the lobby of the Albion hotel in Aberteifi of all places. Stopped me in my tracks.
Dyma fy newis i ar gyfer #TuneTuesday #londoncalling: throwback fach — ‘Lihue’ gan Noelani Cypriano (1978). Roeddwn i’n byw yn Lihue 20 mlynedd yn ôl; tref fach yw hi ar ynys Kaua’i, tua 7.5k o bobl, a Auntie leol oedd Noelani. Byddwn i’n clywed y gân hon yn mwthyn saimin Hamura.
Dychmygwch fy syndod o’i chlywed yn Aberteifi, yn y gwesty Albion. Syncronicity fach oedd hi — a gadawodd fi’n fud.

I played a lot of city #Music for the #MyLand hashtag a few weeks ago for #JukeboxFridayNight. but I'll toss in a few more for #TuneTuesday #LondonCalling.

Another for #TuneTuesday #LondonCalling. I just thought of another song that name-checks a bunch of cities in the lyrics. And it's a cool song.
