My heart sinks to see nurses having to fundraise for hospital equipment at a time when billions are being diverted by our government to military spending.
This is not a serious country.

This is everything that's wrong with UK political discourse. Local elections should be about LOCAL issues - who's going to repair the potholes, get the bins collected on time, and deliver the best social care for vulnerable people.
It should absolutely NOT be in any way related to what's happening in the bloody White House, and our political parties deserve everything they get if they conflate these issues.
Once upon a time large dinosaurs dominated the earth. And post meteor Strike (It seems to have been such), smaller animals, cooperate or not (although that helped) came to grow in significance. An analogy maybe after all the US is generating its own meteor strike, but smaller countries need to cooperate and just leave the US behind its own walls.

Bollox. A silly ineffectual little man who loves the sound of his own voice, although not as much as his wallet. A ‘speaker’ Who bends over to ignore protocol (the best the HoC has for much business) and has his eyes on his own enrichment.
Never actually says anything, does he Starmer. It sounds dynamic- STARMER ORDERS RE-SET. means bugger all of course. Ready to ditch old assumptions…. Means bugger all ….possible changes to fiscal rules ….. means bugger all. Never a cogent , tangible plan. Even Liz Truss had a plan ! #brexit #politics #ukpolitics #bbc #news #EU #Labour #keirstarmer #Starmer #labourparty #RejoinEU #conservatives #rachelreeves #austerity
When Royal Mail #UK
was sold off we were told that this was to protect letter deliveries. Ofcom is now consulting on cutting letter deliveries from 6 to 3 days a week. Will they admit privatisation has failed?
Take 1min to send @Ofcom this message. #Petition

Just glad we still have Labour MPs who are decent enough to be banned by the Netanyahu regime, badge of honour.
This really is a landmark poll.
Independence for #Wales is now a realistic prospect.
Slow Coach might finally be getting the hint about Brexit, the EU and how the US is not well right now.
"But how could their new MP be WORSE than Jacob Rees Mogg, what did he do?"
Faaaaaaking 'ell!
Guess that's another Byelection then.

Macron leaning over to a distraught Starmer and consoling him over the difficult news that the US is not our friend.
You would hope the son of a toolmaker would be more open to knocking all that brexit nonsense on the head, wouldn't you?

The Gruaniads headline writers get England (and maybe Wales) mixed up with the UK.
Under the proposals, counter-terrorism policing units would gain independence from local forces and become part of a new force covering at least England and Wales, and sitting in a newly created national centre for policing.
Proper coordination is essential - but should not be a trojan horse in attempts to tie Scotland closer.
The moral of the story is never trust a UK government, but then many many people and whole countries know all about that.
Perfidious Albion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfidious_Albion for those who might not have come across the phrase) is well deserved. Even worse now with Labour #pandering (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pander-to ) to #Reform.

I'm absolutely convinced that virtually every problem the UK has is, to an extent, downstream of the housing crisis. I'd love nothing more than to believe Labour are going to alleviate it, but I just don't see how they're going to hit this target without the public sector stepping to directly build houses.
If they leave it up to the private sector, there is just no way they will hit the 1.5 million target, tariffs or no tariffs:

ORG's report highlighted the challenges in enforcing how UK Political Parties use our data.
We raised concerns about the privacy and security of canvassing apps used by the Parties, and raised the question of whether voters’ data is being used unlawfully.
The Data Bill risks making the situation worse by granting Ministers powers to change the rules in a way that sidesteps Parliament.

Our briefing shows how Henry VIII powers in the UK Data Bill will allow Ministers to change the law without proper Parliamentary scrutiny.
This threatens electoral integrity when the Party in office could fiddle the rules over the use of voter data at a time of their choosing, giving them an advantage – for example to allow practices that the ruling Party was ready to deploy.

This not just about how our data is used, it’s about the future of our democracy.
The UK government must act to prevent future abuses of power through the Data Bill.
We call for the Bill to be amended, so secondary legislation to create a new legitimate interest can't be applied to Political Parties.
