This is everything that's wrong with UK political discourse. Local elections should be about LOCAL issues - who's going to repair the potholes, get the bins collected on time, and deliver the best social care for vulnerable people.

It should absolutely NOT be in any way related to what's happening in the bloody White House, and our political parties deserve everything they get if they conflate these issues.

Once upon a time large dinosaurs dominated the earth. And post meteor Strike (It seems to have been such), smaller animals, cooperate or not (although that helped) came to grow in significance. An analogy maybe after all the US is generating its own meteor strike, but smaller countries need to cooperate and just leave the US behind its own walls.

Sir Lindsay #Hoyle on his foreign trips: ‘I’m speaking truth to power’

Bollox. A silly ineffectual little man who loves the sound of his own voice, although not as much as his wallet. A ‘speaker’ Who bends over to ignore protocol (the best the HoC has for much business) and has his eyes on his own enrichment.

The Gruaniads headline writers get England (and maybe Wales) mixed up with the UK.

Under the proposals, counter-terrorism policing units would gain independence from local forces and become part of a new force covering at least England and Wales, and sitting in a newly created national centre for policing.

Proper coordination is essential - but should not be a trojan horse in attempts to tie Scotland closer.

I'm absolutely convinced that virtually every problem the UK has is, to an extent, downstream of the housing crisis. I'd love nothing more than to believe Labour are going to alleviate it, but I just don't see how they're going to hit this target without the public sector stepping to directly build houses.

If they leave it up to the private sector, there is just no way they will hit the 1.5 million target, tariffs or no tariffs:

LBCRayner insists she's 'absolutely determined' to hit 1.5 million new homes target despite tariff blow to UK economyAngela Rayner has maintained that she is "absolutely determined" to get 1.5 million new homes built by 2029 despite the economic turmoil caused by the US tariff announcement this week.

ORG's report highlighted the challenges in enforcing how UK Political Parties use our data.

We raised concerns about the privacy and security of canvassing apps used by the Parties, and raised the question of whether voters’ data is being used unlawfully.

The Data Bill risks making the situation worse by granting Ministers powers to change the rules in a way that sidesteps Parliament.

Continued thread

Our briefing shows how Henry VIII powers in the UK Data Bill will allow Ministers to change the law without proper Parliamentary scrutiny.

This threatens electoral integrity when the Party in office could fiddle the rules over the use of voter data at a time of their choosing, giving them an advantage – for example to allow practices that the ruling Party was ready to deploy.
