Brian Lavelle
I’ve been reading more of the work of Walter Benjamin, but have to confess I really struggled tonight with his early metaphysics of language essay ‘On Language as Such and on the Language of Man’ from 1916.

It’s interesting to see how much less opaque his more mature writing is in comparison to this piece (‘On Language…’ was written when he was only 22).

The density of this early work, alongside its rather impenetrable esoteric character, really made my brain ache.

#WalterBenjamin

Tombe la pluie - Theespookje
And a thing we socially fail to comprehend is that as much as I disagree with Benjamin thesis in Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, he's right, it still is more striking to see a museum painting irl than on a photograph, like meeting a friend. Rev.Hans :mstdnca:
I am thinking it’s time to revisit Benjamin’s Einbahnstrasse/One-Way Street collection. Place, the aura and art of place, these have been significant ideas/realities in my life.
