This #MerlinFalcon was calling for some time while perched in the Spruce tree.They are small with heavily streaked plumage and look too small to do much damage but they are fierce and energetic birds of prey. When not hunting, they like to perch in open areas to scan for prey. Small but mighty comes to mind!

@DebOppermann if I were to hate a bird…we have had them 4 years in our neighbourhood. A few yrs ago the young used our tree as their “pickin post” where they sat while parents, older siblings brought food & tossed it to them. A whole summer of our sidewalk with dead songbird bodies they missed catching, body parts they dropped (heads) and feathers floating down onto us, our deck &garden. I kept an open grave for the bits and pieces I picked up daily. It was incredibly sad.
