Did you know Mastodon supports alt text for images that are uploaded? It's for accessibility and those that use screen readers. You can see it when hovering over an image (give it a try on the image in this toot).
Don't forget to add alt text. A lot of users appreciate it.
@meowntaineer There are a few hidden features throughout the UI. 😉
@kemonine
how do you add alt-text?
@ChristianD Once the image is uploaded you can hover over the thumbnail in the toot with your mouse. A small text box will pop up prompting you to click in it to enter the alt text.
@kemonine
Ah, I see it now. I guess we'll just have to wait for the #MastoDevs to add it to their respective apps.
I also noticed that if you hover over a gif that has alt-text, nothing happens. :(
@kemonine Doesn't seem to work from here, but I think we're still on 1.6 or so.
@woozle Bummer :(
It's a feature as of 2.x I believe
@kemonine I'm sure we'll get upgraded eventually; busy admins are busy.
@kemonine That's cool! I'll have to make sure I use that next time!
@kemonine I'm new here and had no idea - this is amazing wow! So glad I saw this
