hex<p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/DearLazyweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearLazyweb</span></a>: I'm trying to avoid buying anything from the US. What <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>meshtastic</span></a> options are available from non-US companies?</p>
Hanno Zulla<p>Dear Fediverse, I want to learn from you:</p><p>Are you happy with your family IT backup solution at home?</p><p>If so, tell me about the backup setup for the computers in your home, say why is it good?</p><p>I'm deeply frustrated and haven't found a satisfying setup yet. My family has a zoo of devices - Linux, Win, MacOS, Android. And appliances such as HomeAssistant, routers, etc. that have data / configs worth saving in case the hardware dies. We also have an SMB fileserver.</p><p>We have backups, yes, but it's a mess.</p><p>I wish there was a unified backup solution for all of these systems. But each has its own idea of how to do backups. And not all of them store to the fileserver in our cellar.</p><p>I wish the backup system had a friendly GUI that's easy to use for the non-techie family members, so that they can restore data, can access their files after a device theft/breakdown, or can get a new device running with their old data without my help.</p><p>I wish the whole backup situation were so obvious to understand that it can still be useful after I got hit by a bus.</p><p>So, did you reach Backup Shangri-La? Let me know how. Retoots appreciated, thanks.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/dearfediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dearfediverse</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/dearlazyweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dearlazyweb</span></a></p>
HP van Braam<p>Do I know anyone that hosts a <a href="https://mastodon.tmm.cx/tags/peertube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>peertube</span></a>? I'm thinking of hosting one myself for &lt;insert secret project&gt; and even after reading the documentation I'm still not entirely sure what it does. It hosts videos but how do people find them? Does it work like Mastodon? People have home servers and they subscribe to feeds? Does the server admin decide what feeds the server shows?</p><p>Is it even a reasonable thing to host your own if you want people to actually see your videos?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.tmm.cx/tags/FediQuestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FediQuestion</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.tmm.cx/tags/dearlazyweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dearlazyweb</span></a></p>
Doc Edward Morbius ⭕<p>Dear Mastomind / Lazywebs: Is it feasible for a Web browser itself to support toggling support of video (or audio) support or codecs absent injecting JS into a page for that purpose?</p><p>My hope is that it might be possible to toggle the availability / support of common video codecs (such as: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, HEVC/H.265, VP9, and AV1), so that a browser would simply ignore an video / audio content.</p><p>I'm hearing that this is not trivially possible. If that's not the case ... I'd be quite happy.</p><p>Boosts / tagging clueful devs appreciated.</p><p><a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearLazyWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearLazyWeb</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearMastomind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearMastomind</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/browsers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>browsers</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/video" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>video</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/VideoCodecs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VideoCodecs</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/WebAnnoyances" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebAnnoyances</span></a></p>
hex<p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/dearlazyweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dearlazyweb</span></a>, specially <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/dutch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dutch</span></a> lazyweb</p><p>I'm trying to understand <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/bike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bike</span></a> parking laws in <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Netherland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Netherland</span></a>. We have a bakfiets. It's been really hard to park. Someone recommended parking in a car parking spot. Someone in a car told us to move so they could park. Is it legal for bikes to park in car spots or could our bike be impounded by the city if we don't comply?</p>
hex<p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/dearlazyweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dearlazyweb</span></a>, I'm looking for <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/solarpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solarpunk</span></a> podcasts. I've been listening to a lot of "It Could Happen Here" which is great, but I need something more hopeful. </p><p>The Revolutionary's Garden is a nice example. Whenever Andrewism is on "It Could Happen Here" it definitely feels a lot more light. What other suggestions do you have?</p>
Doc Edward Morbius ⭕<p>Does the concept of dividing technology in "freestanding" vs. "integrated" ring bells for anyone?</p><p>I'm trying to track this down. Thought that <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/UsulaMFranklin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UsulaMFranklin</span></a> might have been a source, but her Massey Lectures text doesn't include the terms AFAICT.</p><p><a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearMastomind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearMastomind</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearHiveMind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearHiveMind</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearLazyWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearLazyWeb</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/Technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Technology</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/TechOntology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TechOntology</span></a></p>
Doc Edward Morbius ⭕<p>I'm looking for tools to create / edit ePub documents, preferably directly from URLs and employing the Readability library.</p><p>The ability to append to a given document would be quite useful --- additional web pages should be treated as chapters.</p><p>Best options would be Linux (Termux/Android) or Android applications or tools.</p><p>What's out there?</p><p>I <em>am</em> of course familiar with <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/Pandoc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Pandoc</span></a> which addresses HTML-&gt;ePub conversion, but not the Readability library element, or editing the generated pubs.</p><p><a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearMastomind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearMastomind</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/DearLazyweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DearLazyweb</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/ePub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ePub</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/Readability" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Readability</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/web" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>web</span></a></p>
