Hanno Zulla
Dear Fediverse, I want to learn from you:

Are you happy with your family IT backup solution at home?

If so, tell me about the backup setup for the computers in your home, say why is it good?

I'm deeply frustrated and haven't found a satisfying setup yet. My family has a zoo of devices - Linux, Win, MacOS, Android. And appliances such as HomeAssistant, routers, etc. that have data / configs worth saving in case the hardware dies. We also have an SMB fileserver.

We have backups, yes, but it's a mess.

I wish there was a unified backup solution for all of these systems. But each has its own idea of how to do backups. And not all of them store to the fileserver in our cellar.

I wish the backup system had a friendly GUI that's easy to use for the non-techie family members, so that they can restore data, can access their files after a device theft/breakdown, or can get a new device running with their old data without my help.

I wish the whole backup situation were so obvious to understand that it can still be useful after I got hit by a bus.

So, did you reach Backup Shangri-La? Let me know how. Retoots appreciated, thanks.

#dearfediverse #dearlazyweb
