Starshine 🏳️‍⚧️ 🌜As for Ncuti as the Doctor, I think he's fantastic! It's cool it's the first time we get to see a new Doctor for a significant portion of the action in a regeneration story rather than just a short scene of them at the end. The only issue is that it did kind of feel like he was kind of overshadowed by Tennant who still feels like the "main" Doctor for the rest of that story, it didn't feel like a proper passing of the torch because the 14th Doctor hasn't really gone properly. Kinda wished it had gone the way I thought it was going and just had a traditional regeneration in the middle of the story and the new Doctor be the one to finish the Toymaker. Starshine 🏳️‍⚧️ 🌜So the whole "bi-generation". I didn't know what to make of this at first. It seems most peoples interpretation of what happened there is that the Doctor has essentially been cloned, but after re-watching I don't think that's what happened. Multiple lines seem to imply that there's basically a timey-wimey thing going on where 14 will eventually become 15. 15 says to 14 "I'm fine because you fix yourself", Donna also says 15 "came after" 14 and that he's older. So I think after living with Donna's family for a while (and maybe working at UNIT, spin-off bait) he will end up back on that helipad as 15 splitting apart from his past self. As for the Tardises maybe that's a similar thing too. Starshine 🏳️‍⚧️ 🌜Though it's probably my least favorite of the three, I enjoyed it nonetheless. The Toymaker in this story reminded my a lot of Q from Star Trek TNG, there's a bit of Pennywise in there too. He behaves exactly the way I'd expect an entity of his nature would. Tim RichardsWell that was excellent. Russell T Davies' humour doesn't always appeal to me, but in this special it was spot-on - he managed to make the Toymaker both entertaining and terrifying. Certainly the violence in that crazy dance sequence inside UNIT HQ was perfect in its combo of the funny and scary.I also liked the deft touch of the dodgy German accent, which ties in with the villain's dodgy Chinese outfit in his previous appearance in 1966. Basically the Toymaker likes imitating human dress and speech, and is a bit bigoted/crap at doing it.As for that last 15 minutes or so from the "bi-generation"... obviously I *loved* Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, he inhabited the role immediately and was enormously confident in it. Not sure about keeping the tired old Tennant Doctor in existence; it suggests perhaps a lack of confidence in Gatwa. Personally I hope Doctor 14 can no longer regenerate and will fade away in due course.As always with modern DW it doesn't pay to think too hard about plot points. Why, for example, did the Toymaker make people go mad via the Giggle? It wasn't part of a game. And duplicating the TARDIS - ouch. Maybe they needed to make it clearer that was Doctor 15's prize for winning the game.Nice touches of continuity here and there, particularly the Toymaker's puppet presentation of what happens to the Doctor's companions in the modern (specifically Steven Moffat's) version of DW.And welcome back Mel! I'm pretty sure she is the only companion to have seen two regenerations.
