Attn writers and artists in #Waterloo #Wellington #Guelph #Kitchener #Cbridge — im teaming up with Textile Magazine to curate a collection of pieces on the topic of “New Hypermedia: Subverting Big Tech”.

How can we reimagine the web as a medium for creative by using the tools of surveillance capitalism in new and subversive ways?

#BikeNite A1: Posting from #WaterlooRegion, as always.

Most of my rides last year were commuting from a rural town into the city, always alone. Used to do pleasure rides through the countryside, alone, although a couple of years I was a personal worker for a young man and we went biking together.

But I'm really looking forward to some organized group rides this year. Maybe with @CycleWR or with the Sunday riders at #Kitchener City Hall.

After Conestoga College announced it’s closing its downtown #Kitchener campus and laying off 150 staff, we’re already starting to see knock-on effects.

I went out for dinner last night, and three different restaurants were closed at 7:30pm on a Wednesday. Two had lights off with no sign on the door, the other said “temporarily closed as of April 27”. These are all independent businesses that opened in the last few years thanks in part to the new downtown college campus. Hard times :(

@mike <sad weeping sounds from #kitchener -center.>

"423 votes. AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN LIVE HERE" Nine thousand Kitchener voters _panicked_ at the last minute (thats what Mike _was_ polling at - _double_ DeRidder's numbers) and split to the Liberals and now THATS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGs.

I am so angry right now.

We have Ellen Papenburg running for the Animal Protection Party in #Kitchener too! It was touch'n'go for a while - she was on the APP website when the election was called, but then disappeared. Now she's listed on the Elections Canada website, but still not on the APP site.

#WaterlooRegion peeps can follow all the excitement at poliblog.jonkman.ca/Poliblog-E

There are still some unconfirmed candidates who say they're running...

#BikeNite A1: Posting from rural north end of #WaterlooRegion in Ontario.

I go to the city, #Kitchener once a week, 25km (15mi) or so. Biking takes just over an hour to get there, more like 90 minutes to come back (uphill, tired). The bus/LRT takes just over an hour either direction. I've never tried walking. Driving is about 25 minutes.

I find a good estimate for travel time is: walking = 3x bike or transit; biking = transit; bike or transit = 3x driving.
