MathzyFirst steps into coming out of my comfort zone in IT and learning some new web stuff - just in case our contract is not renewed next April.Installed MySQL on my Linux PC. Took a bit of a faff with terminal commands and permissions, but finally got it working with MySQL Workbench as a GUI.I'm still not sure about the backend though? Do I go for Python or JavaScript? KarlHas your OS ever refused to install the MariaDB client package or the MySQL client package due to a conflict with the other?It feels like it should be possible to have both, but unfortunately I have yet to see a solution for this. For a subset of these cases, all that you want is just to have the client tools such as the mariadb/ mysql CLI and the mariadb-dump/ mysqldump backup programs co-existing on the same OS. (I.e. you don't care about the static/dynamic libmariadbclient/libmysqlclient libs etc). {:ok, "Joel Jucá"}I've used <a href="https://functional.cafe/tags/MySQL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MySQL</a> before (last time was 2016, I think), but today I'm mostly onto <a href="https://functional.cafe/tags/Postgres" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Postgres</a> (and sometimes, <a href="https://functional.cafe/tags/SQLite" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SQLite</a>). I know PG is superior to MySQL is pretty much all aspect I could think of, but still, it seems that MySQL still has a quite big user base.What's the catch? What am I missing here? Why would someone use MySQL over Postgres to build smt since Postgres [apparently] is better than MySQL in every single possible aspect?It's a honest question. Please help me understand it – and perhaps, consider modern MySQL/MariaDB in next projects. :)

Den statischen Teil von /homeassistant kann man ja einmal wegsichern und bei Bedarf zurückspielen. Die Datenbank muss aber stabil sein, um nicht immer wieder zeitweise Datenverlust zu haben, weil zwischen letzem Backup und Ausfall Zeit vergangen ist. Am Besten kenne ich mich mit <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/mySQL" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mySQL</a> / <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/MariaDB" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MariaDB</a> aus. Da würde ich eine VM in <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/Proxmox" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Proxmox</a> damit machen und dann mit dem ensprechenden <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/Addon" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Addon</a> von HA anflanschen. Eine komplette (Debian o.ä.)-VM für die Datenbank halte ich für übertrieben. Also <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/LXC" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#LXC</a>, oder was spricht dagegen (außer, dass ich LXC noch nie genutzt und deshalb damit keine Erfahrung habe)? Wichtig wäre mir, wenn ich dieSQLite-DB schon in eine echte DB auslagere, dass ich mit <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/phpMyAdmin" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#phpMyAdmin</a> darauf zugreifen kann. phpMyAdmin lief bisher bei mir immer auf demselben Server wie die DB. Ist das bei LXC easy?

Grundsätzlich verstehe ich auch nicht, warum bei <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/HomeAssistant" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#HomeAssistant</a> als Standard auf <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/SQlite" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#SQlite</a> gesetzt wird. Egal welches System mit Datenbank ich bisher installiert habe, wurde entweder direkt auf <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/mySQL" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mySQL</a>, <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/MariaDB" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MariaDB</a> oder <a href="https://fediworld.de/tags/Postgres" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Postgres</a> gesetzt, oder zumindest empfohlen, nicht SQlite zu nehmen.
