#Prosopagnosia is when you can't recognize faces. #Aphantasia is when you can't visualize things. I have something that lies halfway between these two: I can recognize faces just fine, and I can visualize non-face things just fine, but I specifically can't visualize faces. Weirdly specific...
And in #prosopagnosia (face blindness) news, a new colleague has joined with very cool, fire-engine-red hair that has a touch of magenta.

I'm certain that #FaceBlindness is a big part of why I like dressing as creatures whether it's being #Xenomorph or wearing a silly Halloween mask.
In ordinary life, I look in at my face in a mirror and see a slab of flesh which looks like carefully arranged teratoma, with slight coincidental symmetry.
But with a mask on (even a silly grinning dogman), I feel aesthetic. And I love it.
@linuxgal It just occurred to me: if Weyoun covered his ears and grew a beard, would he look like J.D. Vance? Or is it just the #prosopagnosia talking?

What is interesting is that a mild degree of #FaceBlindness, or #prosopagnosia, does not prevent pareidolia - I have both.

Accepting it has helped me become a better detective and I have days where I think I’d have stronger relationships if this was not a barrier to forming them. For some types of relationships I disclose it, “I have a hard time recognizing faces, so come say hi—I’m not an asshole, if I look like I don’t know you it’s because I don’t know that I do.” 
The recognition of faces is processed by the right fusiform gyrus and caricatures by the left fusiform gyrus.
Sounds like I'm making it up but I'm not, although the evidence is rather flimsy (fMRI data). Also this was from a paper about a decade ago, which was the last time I searched for such stuff.
Might be time for me to fire up PubMed...

i didn't reformat the laptop with the sever install because i still have a lot of GUI software stuff there that i have not moved or archived.
so i just SSH into it. but that means i don't have a visual for all the localhost and network stuff that should be on.

Despite all that, I've been online since #ARPAnet and #DJNR, wrote the first magazine article with simultaneous code distribution (via 8" floppies in the post), coded fab robots to move 6" & 8" Silicon wafers, built my (almost) independent #SolarPV and #SolarThermal house (7K lines of C++ from 1998, 42 device outs), and evolved an audio system with bandwidth from DC to a half MHz. Helped raise four unique kids, as adult minds in young bodies. Still mystify most of the adults I encounter...
