Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>I heard even more <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/PirateRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PirateRadio</span></a> stations around <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/London" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>London</span></a> on <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/FM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FM</span></a> on the way back, a few reggae/soul stations as well as various <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/CommunityRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityRadio</span></a> stations from <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Herts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Herts</span></a> and <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Essex" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Essex</span></a> (there was good <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/SporadicE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SporadicE</span></a> propagation today which helped, with the drum and bass pirates heard well into Essex, - also heard <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Caroline" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Caroline</span></a> Community Radio all the way across North Essex and into a portion of <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Suffolk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Suffolk</span></a> (before it was cut across by a French station) <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/RadioMonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RadioMonitoring</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>À cause de la propagation troposphérique j'ai pu écouter France Info sur 105,2 MHz FM dans ma voiture en Angleterre avec RDS</p><p>Because of a <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/tropo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tropo</span></a> lift , I could listen to France Info on 105,2 Mhz FM from my car in England, with RDS..</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/dx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dx</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/tropo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tropo</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radiomonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radiomonitoring</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>I also brought along the Panasonic RF2400-D DSP <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/receiver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>receiver</span></a> with analogue tuning to see how this performed on 648 KHz - although there is some fading (but less QRM from Spain in daytime) the reception is impressive given the distance from the TX - its comparable quality to monitoring Caroline from Caversham in the 80s when they were broadcasting directly from the Ross Revenge (around 10-35kW ERP, it varied over the years depending how much of the equipment was actually working) <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radiomonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radiomonitoring</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>You can see here why from 1943 to 2018 the <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/BBC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BBC</span></a> picked <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Caversham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Caversham</span></a> (on the border of <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Reading</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Berkshire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Berkshire</span></a> and South <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Oxfordshire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Oxfordshire</span></a>) as a good place for <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radiomonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radiomonitoring</span></a> (it is high up on the Chiltern hills). The signal from Radio Caroline (250 km away at <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Orfordness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Orfordness</span></a>, <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Suffolk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Suffolk</span></a>) just about reaches here by night, and signals from a 500 kW TX which is apparently at Beijing at 8180 km away are quite strong..</p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>there is <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/tropo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tropo</span></a> tonight in <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/northern" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Northern</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/europe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Europe</span></a> : the pirate stream I was listening to from <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/twente" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Twente</span></a> closed down (its midnight, the DJ sounded quite tired) and I could hear a German station in the background (they wouldn't normally deliberately cut across a licensed broadcaster, BNetzA don't like it!), and when I turned on the <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/fm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FM</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> in my stairwell I can hear NPO Radio 1 on 104,4 loud and clear (but I didn't really want to listen to their boring political discourse 😆 )</p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radiomonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radiomonitoring</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> enthusiasts: there is a big <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/tropo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tropo</span></a> lift in <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/uk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UK</span></a> and <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/northern" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Northern</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/europe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Europe</span></a> atm, I am monitoring French and Dutch stations loud and clear on Band II (FM) from the landing of my house with just the internal antenna of my Sangean RX (for some reason the best reception is on the stairwell next to the airing cupboard, I think an old piece of copper pipe in there (not connected to anything at either end) acts as a reflector 😉 </p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radiomonitoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>radiomonitoring</span></a> </p><p><a href="http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.htm</span><span class="invisible">l</span></a></p>
