David Wilkins<p>The four-cylinder Porsche story continued in 1976 with the 924. Breaking with company tradition, the 924 had a front-mounted engine and a ‘transaxle’ gearbox at the rear. Like its predecessor the 914, the 924 started as a joint project with Volkswagen. VW dropped out but still contributed many parts, including the engine, although that was replaced by Porsche units when the car was developed into the 944 and 968.
