Apparently they have, but the liberals and conservatives keep blocking it.</p><p>I recommend citizens who want proportional representation in their countries campaign for STV, not MMP. Neil Drysdale<p>I talked to Alex Mair, who turned 102 this month, about his role in setting up Grampian TV in 1961 and helping it to punch above its weight in news, current affairs, sport and entertainment. Alex still believes it was a mistake when the station was swallowed up by STV in 1997 and I think he’s right. If a voter sees the electorate as marginal between the big parties, the <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/FPTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FPTP</span></a> vote will probably go to the favourite of those two instead of to the real favourite; only the real diehards, who don't see much difference between the big parties, vote for their real favourites. So the <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Greens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Greens</span></a> could win a majority. <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/STV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>STV</span></a> (used in <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/NZ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NZ</span></a> local elections) is better still; counting takes longer but voting is simple.</p>
