Adam Thomas Music 🎸<p>Need a bit of <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/linuxhelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxhelp</span></a> I've just installed Ubuntu Studio 25.04 beta on an system. Steam is doing two strange things:<br>1: It only opens properly when launched from the terminal. When launched front menu it appears for a plot second ten crashes, and loops doing this.<br>2 (more important): Some games have no sound at all. Some won't even launch saying they can't run without a soundcard. I'm using a Behringer UMC1820, which does work outside of steam and on a few steam games.<br>Help! <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ubuntustudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntustudio</span></a></p>

Tilda Moose, citizen<p>I'm super glad to be rid of M$ win7 and fully back with <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/UbuntuStudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UbuntuStudio</span></a>, breathing new life into my 10 year old Dell desktop pc. Missing the luxury of Ableton's familiar workflow, but quickly filling the gap with <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/LMMS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LMMS</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Ardour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ardour</span></a>. Already got a dance track sketched in just a few days, most of which has been spent on familiarisation with the unknown. Now I'm the production bottleneck; sample libraries vs original recordings, self doubt as a composer, the usual. Composition encouragement welcome :)</p>

Duck Facts Plus+ Premium<p>Do not under any circumstances attempt to upgrade Ubuntu Studio 22. Failing to upgrade is actually the best case scenario. If you need the gory details, they are <a href="https://toot.cat/@EveHasWords/113911543143975254" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>. Be aware it gets quite angry and some of my opinions may not line up with yours.</p><p>If you're on a 22 LTS which <em>isn't</em> Studio, you <em>may</em> be fine. However, if you have installed any Python packages with <code>pip</code>, you are going to have a bad time. Python wants you to use <code>venv</code> for that stuff now and they're forcing the issue.</p><p>I have not found adequate advice on how to summon your scripts with <code>venv</code> on Linux without just launching the <code>venv</code> and calling them from inside that. I don't consider that a viable option. It's absurd to launch a <code>venv</code> every time you open a terminal window. I assume there is a way to do it. People are happy to talk about how with regard to Windows. I will find it eventually. If someone doesn't beat me to it in this thread, I will add whatever the advice is here when I have found it.</p><p><a href="https://toot.cat/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/UbuntuStudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UbuntuStudio</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/UbuntuLTS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UbuntuLTS</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> <a href="https://toot.cat/tags/pip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pip</span></a></p>

Jay Poisön<p>Oh, since it's relevant here, I should add the entire discography of Pulsating Cerebral Slime has been produced with open-source software.
