Jenny Andrew<p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> holiday special… this is the face of a woman thinking “fuck you I won”.</p><p>I jettisoned the coat I started last week (energy too scarce to waste on a project that doesn’t excite me), and redirected attention to the water-resistant, bonded houndstooth wool, but with a ‘simple’ cape pattern (new look, N6768).</p><p>It was like sewing a tarpaulin. Should have been doable in two days, but took 5. My hands are TRASHED. I love the result. <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/tailoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tailoring</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/iMadeItMyself" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iMadeItMyself</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/ItHasPockets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ItHasPockets</span></a></p>

I added a tummy control panel in powermesh and it really helps to smooth everything out. I am also really happy with the back fit. I finally figured out my flat butt adjustment. I am definitely ready for trousers.<br><a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/weekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weekendSewingClub</span></a></p>
Jenny Andrew<p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> starting very on-brand with the kind of pattern adjustments that are why I learned to make my own clothes in the first place. Mostly I’ve been cutting out, interfacing, stay-stitching the fluttery, fluid viscose, and (thankfully not many) darts.</p><p>Here’s the pattern photo, and the bodice front, to give you a flavour of how the floral will look.</p><p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/dressmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dressmaking</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/handmade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>handmade</span></a></p>

Catherine RW<p>Ok <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> votes please! I've almost finished my winter party dress (with shades of a C18 wrapping gown/piratical banyan)... but what colour buttons should I use? Option 1, soft green, perfectly pick up the colours of the leaves, or option 2, dark pink, which go more with the base colour. Both types of buttons are 15mm in diameter, so don't affect the size of buttonhole to be set. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewinguk" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewinguk</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span></p>
Jenny Andrew<p>A belated update from <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a>… I had thought I would finish the raspberry houndstooth dress on Friday, and probably start something else, but <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/CFS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CFS</span></a> (and the absolute STATE of the world) is kicking my ass, and I’m struggling to muster the energy to take pictures and say something about them, let alone rip through sewing projects.</p><p>Been having trouble matching buttons lately, so I’m going with internal/concealed buttons for this one.</p><p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/tailoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tailoring</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/dressmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dressmaking</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maker</span></a></p>
Jenny Andrew<p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a></p><p>I got about half way through the blazer dress. Slightly weird order of working, because I wanted to get the lining front done while I can remember how I’d scrapped the lower facing.</p><p>Still vacillating about sleeves/no sleeves. No-sleeves is probably more the sort of thing I would wear, and nicer to sew, but there’s something about the substance of the fabric that I think asks for long sleeves.</p><p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/tailoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tailoring</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/dressmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dressmaking</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maker</span></a></p>
Jenny Andrew<p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/weekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weekendSewingClub</span></a> catch-up</p><p>The shirt dress has buttons. Oh Lord, I ballsed up the buttonholes, especially on the cuffs, but who ever looks at those?</p><p>The picture of me wearing it is a better colour representation of this GLORIOUS fabric: looks nice, but it feels even more incredible.</p><p>Bit short. Probably one for opaque tights IRL. But I do like it.</p><p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/dressmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dressmaking</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maker</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/IMadeItMyself" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IMadeItMyself</span></a></p>

No specific recommendations here: I learned on my grandma’s 1980s machine, which is still the one I use all the time, so that shows you how up to date with current offering I am! However, my firm recommendation is to track down and visit an actual sewing machine shop - the sort where they have them all on display to try out, with someone who really knows their stuff to help.<br>Paging <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewinguk" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewinguk</span></a></span> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a></p>
Vicki Davis<p>Hey <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> ! I totally messed up the top I was trying to make last weekend (mainly due to me not realising that what I needed to do was the burrito method) so I tried again this weekend with a couple of leftover fabrics. Managed to make it work (yay!) - pretty pleased with the look of it until I put it on and saw the unfortunate pattern vs boob placement! Next time will be better <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://chirp.social/@sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewing@chirp.social</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewing@a.gup.pe</span></a></span></p>

Vicki Davis<p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/weekendsewingclub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weekendsewingclub</span></a> One day I will be less vexed that I’ve ruined the top I was making by not understanding the instructions and doing something stupid and unfixable. On that day I will be more thankful that I have learned how to do it properly next time, through the power of YouTube videos. I fear that today is just the day where I gently seethe. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a></p>
Vicki Davis<p>Hi <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> <br>I’ve just finished <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> this Sew Over It Libby shirt in a Lady McElroy fabric called Chicago Polaroids. It’s a bit of a fiddly make, due to the collar, but I’m pretty happy with it (assuming no-one looks at it too closely!)</p>
