@EugeneMcParland Arguably Yalta doesn't represent "post-war peace" as much as "imperial post-war arrangement just short of hot war".

It was less about 'peace' — or the lack of active war, which would result when *one* of the belligerents (Nazi Germany) would be entirely occupied and eventually reconstructed — and more about the three remaining major powers (soviet russian imperialist dictatorship, early-democratic *imperialist* Britain and the partially democratic USA) negotiating over pieces of the pie i.e. their post-war spheres of influence or worse.

I'm not entirely sure that represents any type of "symbol of post-war peace" to all the other nations who had no say in the proceedings... 🤷🏻‍♂️

It was #Yalta where the UK and USA essentially rubberstamped the post-war enlarged soviet empire that only (mostly) dissolved in the 1990s.

Imagine if the orange WH resident gets a whiff of this "yalta thing". Imagine that person sitting down with CCP china and putin/russia to strike a great maga deal for America today; over #Ukraine and other nations under threat?

Update # 1: On 12/Feb/2025 trump unveiled his "kremlin pact" with putin, entirely ignoring the key *existential* interests of the very victim of russia's invasion, #Ukraine, and all other free nations in russia's crosshairs, particularly the EU.

I'm not looking forward to re-editing this innocuous Yalta post with another update where #trump hashes out a deal with the Chinese CCP greenlighting their intent to "do whatever the hell they want" with #Taiwan in near future, but here we are... 😬

Professor Francis #Fukuyama is a world-renowned American philosopher and researcher in politics and international relations. He has always been a staunch supporter of #Ukraine.

European Pravda met him in #Kyiv on the sidelines of the annual #Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference to talk about realistic ways of ending the war, and what would compel the Russians to make concessions.

“Russian intelligence is everywhere. And its propaganda is everywhere, not only in #Estonia but all over the world,” Estonian President Alar #Karis told the Kyiv Independent during an interview on the sidelines of the 20th annual #Yalta European Strategy (YES) Conference in #Kyiv.

#Russia has been actively meddling in the domestic affairs of the #Baltic states.

>> we made a mistake protecting the #USSR from the #ThirdReich and should have just continued on from Berlin to Moscow in order to help rid the world of more fascists

After #Germany was defeated, the #UnitedStates still needed the help of #Soviets to fight #Japan in the East, as discussed at #Yalta in Crimea.

It was only later that the development of Atomic Bomb allowed #Truman to give a unilateral ultimatum to #Japan at #Potsdam in occupied Germany, while USSR was still neutral

"If the allies jointly shoot down missiles and drones in the skies of the Middle East, why is there still no similar decision on the joint shooting down of Russian missiles and Iranian "shaheeds" in the sky of #Ukraine? Moreover, this is not done even when missiles and drones are heading literally to the territory of our neighbors."

- Ukrainian President Volodymyr #Zelenskyy at the #Yalta European Strategy (YES) Forum

Today, #Ukraine celebrates the Day of Unity.

Defenders from #Ternopil, #Yalta, #Kyiv, #Luhansk, #Mykolaiv, #Chernihiv, #Lviv, #Berdiansk, and many other cities and villages of our great country are fighting for #Ukraine at the front. For us, the unity of #Ukraine is an obvious fact. A fact that happened by the will of millions of its citizens to live in their united state. Neither occupation nor #Russian propaganda will change it. Every meter of #Ukrainian land will be liberated.
