chestas<p>Tasmanian Pencil Pines are another endemic plant. A slow growing ancient species, a remnant of the supercontinent Gondwanaland these trees can live over 1000 years </p><p>Though it's up for debate, one line of thought is that this species originated in South America and migrated across Antarctica before the supercontinent split. I find this idea of prehistoric plant migration fascinating. </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/tasmania" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tasmania</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lutruwita" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lutruwita</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/trees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trees</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plants</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/EndemicFlora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EndemicFlora</span></a></p>
chestas<p>Waiting to give blood again. My sense of duty battles against my dislike of the process. </p><p>Looking through my phone photos to take my mind off of things I found this endemic Tasmanian plant that I saw at Cradle Mountain a couple weeks ago. It is Mountain Rocket, covered in seed pods of deep blood red....😵 </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/tasmania" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tasmania</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lutruwita" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lutruwita</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/flowers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>flowers</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/EndemicFlora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EndemicFlora</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/bloomscrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bloomscrolling</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/donate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>donate</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lifeblood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lifeblood</span></a></p>
chestas<p>Yesterday I went to Cradle Mountain (where I saw a baby wombat) and noticed a plant on the Dove Lake track that I didn't know. Turns out it is a Green Mountainlily, a plant endemic to Tasmania that has only one close relative species which grows on New Caledonia. </p><p>It is an ancient species, dating back 120 million years and is easy to miss as it doesn't look anything special. </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/tasmania" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tasmania</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lutruwita" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lutruwita</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/bloomscrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bloomscrolling</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nature</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/flowers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>flowers</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/EndemicFlora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EndemicFlora</span></a></p>
Adam BishopOn my recent hike to the top of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, I saw many butterflies fluttering around and many flowers clinging happily onto the rocks.<br> <br> This is the Sierra Nevada Violet or Viola crassiuscula, a rare endemic species of the Sierra Nevada that grows only above 2,500 metres of altitude, digs its roots down into loose scree or gravel, and waits for the snow to melt in order to show its lovely colours.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rareFlowers?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rareFlowers</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/mountainFlowers?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#mountainFlowers</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SierraNevada?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SierraNevada</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/endemicFlora?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#endemicFlora</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Granada?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Granada</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/GRX?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#GRX</a>
