John Leonard<p>UK IT leaders say they’re finding harder to recruit technical skills than last year. At the same time, graduates in computer science and data science are struggling to find jobs. John Leonard<p>Rage against the machine: Automation in recruitment is failing us all.</p><p>Pursuit of volume alongside outdated processes is growing the tech skills gap.</p><p>If there is such a huge tech skills gap, why is it so hard to get a decently paid entry level job?</p><p><a href="https://www.computing.co.uk/feature/2025/recruitment-automation-is-failing-us-all" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">computing.co.uk/feature/2025/r</span><span class="invisible">ecruitment-automation-is-failing-us-all</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/skills" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>skills</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/skillsgap" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>skillsgap</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/itskills" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>itskills</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/datascience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>datascience</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/technonlogy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>technonlogy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/jobs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jobs</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/technews" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>technews</span></a></p>
Em-squared<p>Is this even remotely true? I know when I worked in a school in the early 2000's there was a big push for "IT skills" I noticed how poorly that generation spelled words (the whole there, their, you're,your thing seemed everywhere) <br>I'm of a generation that's gone from analogue to digital then back to analogue (vinyl,CD,Vinyl again - film, digital, film again). The only tech thing I never had much to do with was the fax.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GenerationZ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GenerationZ</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ITSkills" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ITSkills</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/culture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>culture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/journalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>journalism</span></a> <br><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/feb/27/gen-z-tech-shame-office-technology-printers" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/technology/202</span><span class="invisible">3/feb/27/gen-z-tech-shame-office-technology-printers</span></a></p>
