"This planet has – or had – a problem, which was
this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper which were unhappy.
And so the problem remained; lots of the people were mean, and most of them were unhappy, even the ones with digital watches.
Many were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans." -- Douglas Adams

Lopburi, #Thailand

A long-tailed macaque attacks a shop worker in the Thai city. After Lopburi came out of its Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in 2022, its residents found that the monkeys, without people feeding them, had become unruly. Macaques had taken over buildings, often confronting people, stealing food and causing accidents.

"Almost two-thirds of the vegetation was destroyed... the #monkeys had way less shade in which to find relief... the #macaques had become more likely to sit closer to one another in the puddles of shade and to do so in larger groups... overall aggression levels of the macaques dropped."

Thank you to the whole #FOSS community of developers in the #fediverse This video was able to be made because of you. Thank you for your effort to continue improving our online world of creativity & communities. After burning out from years of supporting #Apple & #Adobe subscriptions; I created nothing for four years. Thank you @kde for your continued development of @kdenlive I’m beyond amazed how far these projects have come and how much easier it is to use allowing more time to focus on the creativity intended.

These clips were from a trip earlier this year to Japan to see the infamous Japanese Snow Monkeys (Macaques) at the Jigokudani Monkey Park. Thanks for giving me a chance to stay creative and share a unique experience. Hope this shares a smile.

A toque macaque sits in water eating flowers at a pilgrimage site in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. The species, a reddish-brown old world monkey, is endemic to the country, where it is known as rilewa or rilawa. It is named for the whorl of hair on its crown, which resembles a brimless toque cap.
