Christian Lawson-Perfect<p>I've finally worked out how to write a <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/MathJax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathJax</span></a> v3 extension which adds a TeX macro calling some JS function that returns TeX code!</p><p>It only took four years since MathJax 3 was released. 😞 </p><p>MathJax is the de facto standard tool for rendering TeX maths notation on the web, and it's only developed by two people, neither of whom are particularly interested in writing documentation. </p><p>This is a textbook case of the misaligned motivations in open source: rendering maths notation is hugely valuable to a lot of very big companies, but the MathJax project gets relatively little funding.</p><p>And Davide doesn't seem to work in a way that makes it possible for volunteers to contribute to the project, so development only happens at his and Volker's speed.</p>
Seán Fobbe<p>I'm planning on adding support for mathematical equations to my Hugo blog soon and am trying to decide between KaTeX and MathJax.</p><p>What's the word on the street? Oblomov<p>I actually wonder if some kind of <a href="https://sociale.network/tags/JavaScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JavaScript</span></a> polyfill could be created to implement support for these features without UA support. It would be suboptimal, similarly to how <a href="https://sociale.network/tags/MathJax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathJax</span></a> is inferior to UA support for <a href="https://sociale.network/tags/MathML" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MathML</span></a>, but could work as a stopgap solution to promote the adoption and standardization of these extensions.</p>

Keith Jones<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/@dmm" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>dmm</span></a></span> to my knowledge you have to be using something that's rendering the <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/mathstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mathstodon</span></a> web page since that's what injects the necessary <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/mathjax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mathjax</span></a> .
