This Is My Glasgow<p>The old and new sections of the Theatre Royal in Glasgow. Originally built in 1867, the corner section was added in 2014, and was designed by Page\Park . This Is My Glasgow<p>In my opinion, Glasgow's streetscape is much poorer and less distinctive because of it. Would it really cost developers that much more to include a feature corner on new buildings? Maybe it's something that the city planners should start insisting on to help maintain the city's distinctive feel. This Is My Glasgow<p>One of my favourite characteristics of Glasgow's traditional architecture is the prominance given to corners, where architects often used major features, such as corner towers, turrets, and cupolas, to mark them. It's something you can see across the city, such as on the right here in Govan. This Is My Glasgow<p>Designed by Page & Park, and constructed in 1994, this building manages to look contemporary, thanks to the sculptural work by Alexander Stoddart and Jack Sloan, while still sitting comfortably between its Georgian (right) and Victorian (left) neighbours. This Is My Glasgow<p>This one will not be to everyone's taste, but I kind of like this building on Glassford Street in Glasgow. It's quite reminiscent of Gillespie, Kidd and Coia's 1970 BOAC building on nearby Buchanan Street. This Is My Glasgow<p>Love the way the architect of this tenement building in the Govan area of Glasgow has used a column of bay windows to pivot it around a curving junction between two roads. It's the little details like this that help to really make a streetscape, and that are all to often missing from modern buildings.
