<a href="https://social.sandervankasteel.nl/tags/OpenWRT" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#OpenWRT</a> has been upgraded on both my Xiaomi routers (one used as an access point) and now I have IPv6 🥳</p>

James Smith 💾<p>Is there a way, either using a browser plugin or even better <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/OpenWRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWRT</span></a>, to get DNS requests to automatically redirect to other domains? I have blackholed x.com on my local net, but it would be great to have it auto redirect to xcancel.com for when I occasionally need to go look at something in the hellscape.</p><p>EDIT: looks like browser-side is the way. I used <a href="https://einaregilsson.com/redirector/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">einaregilsson.com/redirector/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Loafer<p>Pretty good day yesterday, soldiered 4+1 pins on a router, with the window open with the fan on. </p><p>Did so because <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/minicom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>minicom</span></a> wasn't allowing me to input anything over "the holes". </p><p>Had a hell of a time with the +1 pin, but eventually got it; no bridges, cleaned up the board, plugged in tx to rx, rx to tx and gnd to ground, setup <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/minicom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>minicom</span></a> and cautiously plugged in the <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/router" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>router</span></a>. It worked! </p><p>But my input was still bad. Turned out to be a setting in /etc/firmware/cmdline.txt console=ttyS0 and the getty@ttyS0 service needed turned off and in minicom it was echoing everything I wrote twice.</p><p>So then after reading a blog about it, used <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/sftp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sftp</span></a> to pull an <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/openwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openwrt</span></a> <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/ramfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ramfs</span></a> image from the routers' <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/bootloader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bootloader</span></a> from a <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/tftp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tftp</span></a> server and booted OpenWRT. </p><p>From there, scp'd the squashfs image of OpenWRT since it couldn't be pulled via tftp since it won't install that way. Then finally overwrote the manufacturer's OS on it. Lastly, the mac address changed, so found that out through the serial port and now it always runs OpenWRT </p><p>It was a good day, despite it being 9/11. <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/embedded" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>embedded</span></a> <a href="https://discuss.systems/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>

fraggle<p>In the early 2000s, most people thought of routers as little boxes that just sat in the corner. Hackers thought differently. By unlocking them with OpenWrt, a Linux-based firmware, they transformed those devices into firewalls, VPN servers, mesh nodes, extenders, repeaters and even tiny general purpose computers.</p><p>OpenWrt didn’t just give control back to users, it proved a bigger point. Hardware that corporations lock down can be reclaimed by open source. What started as tinkering reshaped embedded Linux development and paved the way for today’s IoT, mesh networking, and maker culture.</p><p><a href="https://1.6.0.0.8.0.0.b.e.d.0.a.2.ip6.arpa/tags/openwrt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenWrt</span></a> <a href="https://1.6.0.0.8.0.0.b.e.d.0.a.2.ip6.arpa/tags/hacktheplanet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HackThePlanet</span></a> <a href="https://1.6.0.0.8.0.0.b.e.d.0.a.2.ip6.arpa/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://1.6.0.0.8.0.0.b.e.d.0.a.2.ip6.arpa/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://1.6.0.0.8.0.0.b.e.d.0.a.2.ip6.arpa/tags/networking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Networking</span></a></p>
