RealGravitas -Citizen Saboteur<p>Anybody in <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/herps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>herps</span></a> know something about <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/rattlesnakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rattlesnakes</span></a>? I’m unfamiliar with this particular pattern. It was a larger snake, and appeared to have lost most of its rattle. <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/herpetology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>herpetology</span></a></p>
David Epithet 🇺🇦<p>Red diamond rattlesnake (Crotalus ruber), Lakeview Mountains, southern California. Yesterday, right next to the trail. dandelion<p>Humans aren't the only ones appreciating the paths the buffalos walk in the Badlands: This magnificent Prairie Rattlesnake found it quite convenient, too. Fortunately, it warned us off in time - we stepped aside and let it pass.</p><p>Apparently, an unleashed dog at the campground ran off into the grass and got bitten. It had to be taken to an emergency vet to receive antivenom (an hour drive away - nothing is close out here!)</p><p><a href="https://dresden.network/tags/BadlandsNationalPark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BadlandsNationalPark</span></a> <a href="https://dresden.network/tags/Rattlesnakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rattlesnakes</span></a> <a href="https://dresden.network/tags/Herps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Herps</span></a></p>

RealGravitas -Citizen Saboteur<p>I have lost track of the number of <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/rattlesnakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rattlesnakes</span></a> I have seen this year. It’s getting weird.</p>
David Epithet 🇺🇦<p>I met up with old man SnattleRake today on the trail. He sounded off about 8' to my right as I passed by, so I scooted on a few steps, then decided it might be nice to get a photo. So I climbed up onto a boulder on the other side of the trail from him, and pulled out my phone. At that point, he came out of the bushes onto the trail, and...headed straight towards me. ⬇️ </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/snakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>snakes</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/rattlesnakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rattlesnakes</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/snek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>snek</span></a></p>
llewelly<p>Rattlesnakes are less stressd by stressful events when in the company of a another rattlesnake. This I learned from episode 166 of herphighlights <a href="https://herphighlights.podbean.com/e/166-emotional-support-rattlesnakes/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">herphighlights.podbean.com/e/1</span><span class="invisible">66-emotional-support-rattlesnakes/</span></a> , which covers a paper on this topic.<br>Interestingly, these are southern pacfic rattlesnakes, from the relatively warm climate of southern California and Baja California, rather than one of the northerly species, which are known to commonly overwinter in large groups.</p><p><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/snake" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>snake</span></a> <br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/rattleSnakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rattleSnakes</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/herps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>herps</span></a> <br><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/reptiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reptiles</span></a></p>
