This is related to the concept of a <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lightcone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lightcone</span></a> which expands at the speed of light. This doesn't sound quite so much like birthing a twin universe, does it? Now what about the North Star? It will have to wait 433 years for news of our Time Travel event(s). And that's still pretty much in our tiny <a href="https://aus.social/tags/celestial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>celestial</span></a> neighborhood. </p><p>The point is that the effects of such events are largely localized and rapidly diluted as we move farther away. This still has its paradoxical problems, but it doesn't quite feel like the whole universe dividing into two — maybe part of it (a universelet? a subuniverse?) Possibilities are that in moving further out in space-time, the effects of a Time Travel incident may be 'blurred out', as are anomalous numerical samples in the law of large <a href="https://aus.social/tags/numbers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>numbers</span></a>. If one pours a cup of coffee into a lake, it doesn't change the color of the lake. There is a brief chaotic <a href="https://aus.social/tags/glitch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>glitch</span></a> before it is no longer measurable. </p><p>It is tempting to imagine space-time as "stitching" itself back together. (Glitch &amp; stitch?) AI agents acting on behalf of human principals are supposed to lead us into a new age of productivity and convenience. The eloquence of AI-generated text and the narrative of super-human intelligence invite us to trust these systems more than we have trusted any human or algorithm ever before.</p><p>It is difficult to know whether a machine is actually intelligent because of problems with construct validity, plagiarism, reproducibility and transferability in AI benchmarks. And frankly, Bill Clinton signed some of the most repressive legislation that has ever been wielded as a hammer against poor people and people of color. What Nixon and Halderman and the others have been worried about was a population of free black and brown people, who were educated, employed and able to participate in the so-called American Dream. 4/7

They used the word “I” and the anxiety in their replies was palpable, because all the things most of you stated would happen ARE already happening and have been for quite some time, just not where the most of you live. As I expected most people could not give concrete examples of what fascism would look like for them. I prompted over 20 times to push people to focus on their own community. Few could. A handful of people finally stated what would happen to others in their community but because of their white privilege they would not bear the brunt of of it . 1/6

For everyone who invokes the "Nazi bar" story in arguments for suppressing certain speech on the internet, here's a thought experiment for you.

Note: it's not necessary to agree with any of the arguments presented here to run the experiment. If you read the posts in context, I think it's pretty clear that despite my defence of Palestinian human rights - including the right to political autonomy - I disagree with most of the arguments presented here.
