betjemausNesseby, Varanger Peninsula, Norway 2023 This wooden frame construction on the coast of the Varanger peninsula was used to dry fish. Cod, I think. It's strange how this seemingly fragile construction manages to withstand the harshand salty winds brought in by the sea. An old saami fishing boat is still laying in its belly, resting until it is no more. In the background of the third picture, there is the beautiful white church of Nesseby. It looks so light in the fog, it's almost like its afloat in the bay. It's like time stood still here. I imagine weathered fishermen coming back from a hard days work, or their families gathering at the church praying for their safe return. It feels very special to stand in this place. I visited Varanger in 2023, but had to return to a more inhabited world due to a self-inflicted car malfunction :P I'm set on returning this summer. I'm open to any and all suggestions for great hikes in this area!
