Do you know what this is?
Something different from me. A digital nighttime photo! It's a famous landmark, but where is it, what is it, and why was it built? What was its purpose? If you know, put it down in the comments. If you don't know, have a guess. I shall be posting more photo clues...
Wow! Great response. Thanks for your answers. It is the Palacio de Cibeles (Cibeles Palace), in Madrid.
Originally built as a post office and telecommunications centre, it was known as the Palacio de Comunicaciones (Communications Palace). The building was bonkers - the largest post office building in the world. At 12,000 square meters and 70 meters high, it easily beats the 4,000 square meters of the Chicago office.
More photos inside Palacio de Cibeles.
Considering this was originally built as a post office, the scale, the details and the finish of this building are amazing. If you are ever in Madrid, I recommend visiting this place.
Palacio de Cibeles today.
Now, the Palacio de Cibeles primarily serves as a City Hall; however, the building is also open to the public and serves several different purposes, including a public cultural information point for exhibitions, concerts, workshops, seminars, meetings, reading groups, and performances. Thes photos show how the building is used today.
This is the last photo of Palacio de Cibeles for now. There was a locked door (with the emergency push bar type) - maybe it was an emergency exit, I can't remember. I opened it (no alarms went off) and found this amazing staircase.

@inthedarkwelive Absolutely correct! It's the post office connection that fascinates me most. I will be posting photos from the inside, so watch out for those!
@tapasinthesun I don’t recall the name of the building, but I think it’s in Madrid.
@RobinWoltman Right location. It's the Palacio de Cibeles, originally built as the Palacio de Comunicaciones.Watch out for additional photos that I will be posting.
