Returned from an expedition to the Lower Ice Lake ("Unterer Eissee") beneath Hallstätter Glacier #Dachstein #Austria with @rglueckler, Ulrike Herzschuh (both @awi) and Jakob Korneli (@unileipzig). We wanted to take lake sediment cores to reconstruct the vegetation development of the last c. 130 years.
We previously did some avalanche rescue training. Unfortunately, the snow and avalanche conditions prevented us from reaching our destination, and we had to return.

Was für einen Unterschied Tageszeit und Wetter ausmachen, konnten wir heute bei perfektem Wanderwetter beobachten.
Am frühen Morgen herrschte noch herrliche Stille am See, die Berge im Morgenlicht spiegelten sich an der Oberfläche und alles wirkte wie verzaubert.
Am Nachmittag waren zwar weniger Wolken am Himmel, aber es gab viel Trubel am Ufer und die besondere Stimmung war verflogen.
Auch wenn das Foto wegen der Sonne mehr nach "Postkarte" aussieht.

Interesting to hear that the recolonation is slower!

The pictures are from today's hike to "Brandalm" - a hut that serves Austrian cuisine. Downhill we went by sledge. Yes, it's fast!
