Dixon Grain Elevator

Grain elevators to me are like old boats. They seem to develop their own unique look and character as they age and I don't think any two are the same.
So I purchased a new lens for my camera and I wanted to give a try. This grain elevator is roughly 20 miles from my home and I always wanted to explore the area and the elevator itself.

Dixon Grain Elevator This is an image of a Grain Elevator located in Dixon California. Grain elevators to me are a lot like boats. They seem to have their own style and character. This one has some kind of warehouse or office located on top of the large cylindrical towers. There are other buildings in the background and the foreground is an empty parking lot. The sun is just starting to breach the horizon off to the right of the image creating a nice warm pinkish glow.

There are a number of objects that are my favorite subjects. These include old barns, old boats, and old grain silos.

Dixon Grain Elevator I woke up early to try out a new lens for my camera. I had always wanted to shoot this grain elevator but I was waiting on the right conditions. It turns out, the right conditions occurred on a cold December morning. In the foreground is a gray driveway/parking lot. The grain elevator is maybe 100-120 feet tall, I'm not really sure as I'm not a good judge in height. On top of this structure is something I don't recall seeing before, a warehouse like structure. The sun is coming up behind the elevator but hasn't broken the horizon yet throwing beautiful pink and blue hues into the early morning sky.
