On the train journey home. Bit more than three hours and I will finally enter my blessedly quiet flat. Hope my plants survived and my balcony doesn't look too terrible. Can't remember the last time I missed my home this badly, I feel as if I was gone half a year 😆

But the exhausting and stressful parts of the vacation are already fading and soon there will only be the nice memories and pretty photos 🤗 #TripDiary

Cairo is a city you cannot be prepared for when you come from a Western country and never been to a metropole from an Eastern country. I was overwhelmed for the whole two days I was there. Compared to Cairo, London is an idyllic country side village. The noises, smells and traffic are simply off the chart. Wow.

Photo out of the window of a plane by night. Berween the curved window frame and the round plane engine are the streets of Cairo visible. Two main roads are brightly illuminated by streetlights. One from top to bottom, one from roughly side to side. Between them endless lights and smaler roads are sprinkling light into the dark. On the right side of the picture the lights are white. In the distance near the horizon the lights are more orange. In the closer part at the edge of the window countless sky scrapers stand out in multicoloured purple, blue and green light, as if their whole structure has been eqipped with fairy lights.

Between the rear-view mirror (equipped with trinkets and a tree-shaped air freshener) and the dashboard you can see a wide road filled with a traffic jam of an endless amount of cars. The middle of the road is marked by a prominent big stone step. Right next to the car ahead, a woman in wide black clothing sits on that step. She holds a small child on her lap and a broken green umbrella over her head to protect them from the sun. Full plastic bags sit in front of her. She seems unconcerned in the middle of the traffic. In the distance beyond the cars sand coloured limestone houses rise up and on top of a hill sits the impressive Alabaster Mosque or Muhammad Ali Mosque with its bright round domes and high minarets. Everything looks muted and dusty, even the blue sky above.

Good morning! Short update on my trip. We've finished our sightseeing tour and Nile Cruise and in two hours we get on a bus to drive through the desert for 4 hrs. At the end of that drive waits a beach hotel at the Red Sea. Both of us need the relaxing part urgently. Don't think I've ever been on such an exhausting vacation. Plus, both of us have been sick for the last three days. (Terrible cold from all these ACs 🥺). It was stunning and beautiful and incredible, but also stressful 😆🥹

Good morning. We made it to Kairo and into our hotel room late in the evening, so we basically collapsed into bed to sleep. Unfortunately neither of us slept much cos there's a construction site right below our window and they worked the whole night through 🥹 #TripDiary
