A little reminder that DuckDuckGo is venture capital (VC) funded.

The way VC works:

1. You get VC
2. You grow as fast as you can (or fail fast)
3. You sell (either to a larger corporation or to the public in an IPO; this is called the “exit”)

(In case any of you are surprised by recent/future developments.)

I don't hang out on #Bluesky and I'm all in on the #Fediverse, but I have to admit that when I occasionally go over to Bluesky to see a thread that somebody has linked here or that was bridged here via #BridgyFed, I find that the comments on the thread tend to be quite good.
There's definitely an early-Twitter-before-it-turned-to-shit vibe to it.
Mind you, I don't think it will last, because everything backed by #VC eventually eventually enshittifies, but right now, it really is pretty good.

Other club owners, besides #DonaldTrumpJr, include Zach & Alex #Witkoff — the sons of #Trump’s #MiddleEast envoy #SteveWitkoff — & #OmeedMalik, who leads #1789Capital, a Florida-based #VC firm that recently *hired* Donald Trump Jr as a snr exec. The investments for 1789 Capital have included companies such as #Plaid, a #DigitalFinance firm that had lobbied the #CFPB related to a new set of banking rules—until Trump’s team effectively shut down the agency & stalled enforcement of the #regulation.

I don't share the author's sentiment that this is good.

LLMs are an incredibly inefficient way to poorly mimic some aspects of cognition. The market seems to agree, in that there aren't any important use-cases for the technology to date.

Nonetheless, investors are extremely excited about making large numbers of people redundant via AI, so anything that might indicate progress in that direction is guaranteed funding.

Meanwhile rumours have been swirling that Tesla board members quitely started searching for a new CEO.

The company is of course denying it, but as the old adage goes "buy the rumour, sell the news", imo this is exactly what I'd expect to see if the board were going to attempt to take Musk out of the CEO position.

Keep protesting, it's working.
