This is so deeply disappointing and backwards. The #Texas House had a much more reasonable version which regulated products, but they caved (yet again) to threats from the Senate and Dan Patrick.

I'll have a story next week about the devastating impacts this will have on Texans.

My final assignment for my Drugs, Society and Crime subject is to write an essay comparing Australia's drug policies to that of another country.

I'm (obviously) going to write about Portugal, where drugs are decriminalised as a part of a wider health-led framework around dealing with drug use.

What I want to write about is Philippines and Rodrigo Duturte's War on Drugs, especially in light of this... because that essay promises to be a wild fucking ride to write!

Worth noting that Austin City Council has ordered our police to deprioritize cannabis arrests, a policy which I don't believe would be directly affected by this court decision overturning the decriminalization ordinance.

In #books: New federal drug prohibition laws were reshaping the societal and penal landscape. It’s against this backdrop that Texans took a central role in the attempt to balance punishment with treatment for the growing percentage of the U.S. population addicted to drugs.
