News and tobacco kiosk in Sofia, Bulgaria, early 1970. Taken with my #Werra 1 with #IlfordFP4 (not Plus) film; no meter (I used the metering hints inside film boxes in those days, essentially Sunny 16).
I worked in Sofia for 4 months at that time, so plenty of time to get to know the communist world a little. The adventures there are described in a series of blog posts starting at https://unsustainableideas.wordpress.com/2020/07/08/my-life-in-computers-5a-icl-system-4-and-bulgaria/ .

@carusb What are your thoughts on XX in HC110e? What time did you use?
@tomnorthfilm Really enjoying XX. Last couple of years I used a 2 rolls of Cinestill BWXX, one lab-devved in IlfoTec DD, the other I did in FX-39 II. Both good. This REFLX roll was in HC-110 E, & a 2nd one lab-devved in Tri-X but I don't have that film back yet. The time I wrote on my dev spreadsheet for XX at 200 in E was 9 min 36 seconds (it says "Calculated" beside it), but I do remember thinking that was wrong and hand-writing a shorter time on the printed sheet, at home (but we're not!)
@tomnorthfilm Just reviewed this whole roll, and yes, I really like XX at EI 200 in HC-110 dilution E! (Some of then photos, not so much, but that's how it goes...)
@carusb I’m seriously thinking of making Double X my next bulk load roll. I’m getting down to the end of my bulk loaded Arista 200 (Foma).
@tomnorthfilm I think that's a very good plan. Very versatile at EI 200, excellent film, and the commercial stock is bulk-loaded anyway, just by someone else!
@carusb I can get a 100-ft roll of Double-X from Ultrafine for $110, making it $6.11/roll when I bulk load it. That’s a pretty decent price for such a great film.
@tomnorthfilm ... and you can presumably make shorter rolls if you want to, as well! I've not quite reached the roll my own stage yet, though.
@carusb Yes, I can make shorter rolls but usually don’t. My way is to roll all 18 rolls at one time and then store them in the freezer. I only have one bulk loader, so when fall rolls around I’ll need it to load HP5. The AP loaders are my favorite, but they are the most expensive. I prefer them because I get much less wasted film. Very little film is exposed in the process.
