Hey @neurodivergent4climatejustice
#welcome to the Fediverse and climatejustice.social.

Glad to have you here.
If you ever have any questions or need help you can always ask me.

Here is some #AltText for your pictures:

1, text:
Important note. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all my fellow neurodivergents, the philosophers, the social scientists and others who have been discussing and working on these definitions the last couple decades. Note that all definitions are still evolving, because the movement is still evolving. "Not about us, without us."

1, design:
In the background there is a drawing of a small planet with a giant tree with foliage in all rainbow colors. On top there are two stylized pink heart symbols with lines radiating in all directions and on the bottom there is a stylized brain consisting of colorful bubbles. The bottom bubble looks like a speech bubble where the stem represents the connection to the spinal cord.

2, text:
Neurodiversity. The term neurodiversity emerged in the '90s in the online autism community. Since then this grassroots social movement has been standing up for their rights, has been changing the perception on neurodiversity and has been fighting ableism. Not only the movement has grown and changed, so has the definition. There is no leader, no official organization or official definition, which means that the meaning of neurodiversity is still evolving. At this moment I resonate the most with the following meaning: Neurodiversity refers to the infinite variety of neuro-cognitive capabilities in the human brain. It is as essential to the human race as biodiversity is to all live on Earth. This changes the whole view of the system created by the neurotypical human. The brain that learns, processes and responds differently than what is perceived as 'normal or typical' is therefore not a disorder or bad deviation that needs to be fixed. It is a variety in the diversity of the human brain that is essential to the human race. This changes everything in a very positive way. Note: This is a minimalist description. I can imagine that some of my fellow neurodivergents may disagree and that's okay. We are all part of the neurodiverse social grassroots movement, that is still learning and evolving.

2, design:
Same tree in the background.

3, text & design:
Some examples of a neurodiverse group of people: Option 1: 4 stylized people. 3 blue labeled neurotypical. 1 pink labeled neurodivergent. Option 2: 4 stylized people in different colors, all labeled neurodivergent. In the background there is the same tree again.

@neil adding another to this great list, a benefit for everyone: alt-text can be translated within most apps, I use it often to understand signs/comics/memes in other languages (with context).

Alt-text is kindness and if you need help volunteers respond to #Alt4me to provide text when you're unable.

WOW!
h/t @inarticulatequilter for posting the BAREFOOT & PREGNANT QUILT

❝ Laury was living in California when inspiration struck for “Barefoot & Pregnant,” a piece that depicts a quote by Arkansas state legislator Paul Van Dalsem… His 1963 speech to the Little Rock Optimist Club decrying busybody members of the American Association of University Women was captured by a Gazette reporter, and the entire country took notice. Not in a good way.❞
