#Anthropocentrism and human #hubris:

🚾 Yeah, humans invented #toiletPaper in the 2nd century in China and fabricate it in the Western world since the 19th c! Before/elsewhere, they used shitsticks, clay shards, stones, sometimes even water. Animals would never do this!

Wait.

🐵 Chimpanzees would never scratch their skin with broken shards - they use leaves after having a poo. And make their own medicine from plants. theguardian.com/environment/20

We’re only at the beginning of discovering the #animal roots of #language. But one thing that we can’t ignore² anymore is the Logos was not given exclusively to #humanity. #Anthropocentrism can now survive only through voluntary ignorance. Reality is there for all to see. We’ll have to admit either that the Word descends from the flesh and not the flesh from the Word, or that the spirit is not a #human prerogative.

Tickling the Tsaheylu:
Humans are not supernatural beings. This might, on the face of it, sound like a statement with which the vast majority of us agree. However, it is anything but. Western Agro-industrial civilization holds at it's heart two overriding principles. Principles that it shares with the Abrahamic religions, and which have survived the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason completely intact, and which it could be argued have even been reinforced by them. These principles, those of anthropocentrism and of human supremacism or exceptionalism, declare humans to be supernatural beings.

Human societies being made up of humans does not automatically lead to #Anthropcentrism.

For example, Anishinaabe worldviews put humans as below the rest of creation rather than above.

journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.11

"All of Creation is connected and reliant upon one another, though humans are arguably the most dependent species having been created after all else according to Anishinaabe Creation stories."

That (nervously) gets us into a discussion of what constitutes a "modern society".

So much diversity has been pushed below the surface by colonialism (primarily Abrahamic colonialism, which often pushes #Androcentrism, #Anthropocentrism and other hierarchical thinking onto other societies).

I don't see colonial/supremacist thinking as "modern".

Because of where I live, I'm learning about the Haudenosaunee & Anishinabek peoples -- comparing worldviews.

@MisuseCase

I find #Capitalism is used as a catch-all phrase for so many unrelated things.

Examples:#Anthropocentrism and #Androcentrism are generally part of European and Abrahamic worldviews, and still present if peoples with those worldviews base their economies on other European theories (Socialism, Marxism, Communism, etc).

I still strongly believe what disables #ADHD and #ActuallyAutistic people environmental (systems in society) and not built into the individual.

Hoping to connect with a vibrant and interdisciplinary research and advocacy community!

A lot of vegan social media posts are of junk food. If you say so, a pile-on ensures you're rapidly 'educated' that veganism is for the animals; it's not about health. Apparently, humans aren't animals these days, and diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are not suffering.

Dear Void… just an #introduction 👋🏻
I’m Hugo, a #philosophy and #law #gradstudent at #Stellenbosch Uni in South Africa. Currently working on my LLM thesis in the #legalphilosophy of #animallaw. Broadly, my research draws on #decolonial theory, #criticalanimalstudies , #ecofeminism , and #posthumanism to displace #anthropocentrism as a quasi-transcendental limit of legal discourse.
