The floof balls popped up again today. But this time super quiet, just sneaking onto the balcony and softly chirping out hello. They left just before the sun popped out.
I already had my airport bag packed with cameras right next to the arm chair, so had a few cameras to choose from this morning.
This Great Blue Heron stops by the pond at the local cemetery down the street from every year for a week or two.
A more dramatic pose from the same Red-Tailed Hawk I posted yesterday.

An Eastern Wood-Pewee spotted along East Pond Trail at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.

A Shakespeare enthusiast introduced this invasive species, the European Starling, to the U.S. in 1890 by releasing them in Central Park. They are now one of the largest songbird populations in the country (over 200 million).
It is a damn good-looking bird

"I think that it is a greenfinch... however at 80m, even with the 600mm lens and AI post-processing, no good image quality is possible. Nevertheless, I'm glad to have these birds right here in the middle of the city - sometimes there are 5 or more of them perched on the antenna. Goldfinches are also often present. Previously, the great tit was very active - and now the blackbird sings its evening song."

Honestly it's been a bumpy few months and the last few days have worn me to a frazzle...
And then these chaps drop in for a quick hello and a walnut. Never had the cockatoos visit our little balcony before. First time ever. They arrived in silence, not making a fuss. Let me hand them each a snack before flitting away.
Been waiting years for this moment. Gonna treat this as a good sign.
