If there is a lot of honey in the pot, someone will try to leverage it against fairness.
What if we spread the honey around?

YOU HAVE SKILLS
Evaluating What Skills You Can Bring to #RadicalOrganizing
"It’s really easy when looking at the big picture of organizing, to not know where to start or how to help. It can get debilitating and paralyzing. And I, as somebody with anxiety, definitely look at the big picture sometimes and don’t know what to do or how to help and end up getting frozen. Sometimes I don’t help because I don’t know where to go.
"Part of being comfortable giving, volunteering, and working in solidarity with people is knowing how you can give. We are going to talk about different ways that you can look at your skills so you know exactly how you can help. With the combination of knowing your skills and knowing your boundaries, you can fully, enthusiastically consent to whatever you are signing up for.
"Not all organizing is intense or glamorous. Skills come from all over. You may not even realize you have skills that can be used for #MutualAid organizing. Often, we think only specific skills are used in mutual aid organizing. This is not necessarily the case. We need more than just rally speakers, meeting leaders, and flier makers.
"First of all, what do you think of off the top of your head of things that you are good at? What are you proud of, that you know you do well? What is your ideal way to show up and help a friend or organization?
"If you were imagining there was a project happening in your area, think of an ideal 30 minutes of time volunteering, what would that look like? Would it be helping greet people as they come in? Giving a training? Signing up people? Cooking in a kitchen? Would it be handing out fliers? Would it be yelling in a fascist’s face? Look at what you would think you would feel the most comfortable doing inside of an organization."

Last year, the private health care company HCA announced it was going to stop providing essential emergency, trauma, and stroke care at the only hospital in San Jose's East Side, a largely working-class, Latinx and Asian community, At the same time, HCA planned to invest millions in its hospital on the wealthy west side of town.
So - the community mobilized, and the County of Santa Clara bought the hospital!
It will now become part of our county's public health system, restore the trauma, stroke, and cardiac services that HCA closed, and be open to all.
Has anyone been using Meetup to organize a group and are planning to leave given the significant increase in price ($140 USD more per year for my group), or leaving for any other reason?
I’ve been an organizer for a group that set up on Meetup over 13 years ago. It’s never been my preferred approach, but it was well established within the group culture so I just played along. However, as Meetup joins the rush to add “AI Sauce” to everything I do not see how their development roadmap will bring any benefits to a tiny group focused on analog art and is funded through optional, low-cost contributions (we suggest $6 to participate in an event).
I’ve become the de facto leader (last leader left organizing is It!) and have let the group know that I plan to use the next 6 months finding ways to replace Meetup. Some support (calendar of events, accept donations) will be picked up by the parent nonprofit organization I moved the group into this past summer (we are part of the programming at Portland’s Independent Publishing Resource Center), Yay! I’m also looking for ideas around shared photography archives (high need), mail lists, discussion boards (low/not needed), etc.
I have heard there’s a script in GitHub for downloading photo albums in bulk. Will be liking into that with my wife’s help. The group has 153 albums and the inability to do bulk downloads has been a roadblock in the part! Is anyone working on grabbing the data for historical events (e.g., dates, descriptions, etc.)?

Where are the queer, BIPOC organizers from Florida sharing what they need?
Can I send money? Signal boost? Something else?
I’m worried about what’s happening in FL but I’m not interested in abandoning the state or going off half cocked without listening to people who are directly impacted.
Please boost this if you’re also wondering who needs our attention. Let’s find the right people.
Hey people, so open-source software for community/ neighborhood resource sharing / mutual aid. Eg tools and machines. What is there? @liaizon #CommunityOrganizing #CommunitySoftware #ResourceSharing #MutualAid
please boost: i'm looking for guides, articles & app recommendations for object libraries - centralized and decentralized (say, eg, we want to make sure everyone in the neighborhood can lend stuff from one another without it becoming a huge mess) #library #librarySocialism #anarchism #mutualAid #communityOrganizing
Would something like this work to help us get started?

Also, my capacity will be a bit limited once the next semester starts, so I've reached out to #AlliedMedia and #CaraPage to see if they can recommend someone with the capacity to moderate and/or coordinate virtual programming.
I agree that its important to include many more voices around this topic and it would be nice to work with folks who have experience doing virtual #CommunityOrganizing around #HealingJustice

Curious to know which books and/or organizations shaped your #SocialJustice and #RacialEquity lens
Looking at this book list from https://antiraciststarterpack.com/
The first book I read on #RaceConscious perspectives was #RaceMatters from #CornelWest
I typically recommend #HowToBeAnAntiRacist by #IbramXKendi to folks who are new to learning about #antiracism and #WeDoThisTilWeFreeUs by #MariameKaba for folks who are learning about #CommunityOrganizing with an #abolitionist lens
The orgs I recommend following to learn the basics around social justice issues are #MovementForBlackLives #M4BL #NDNCollective #ShowingUpForRacialJustice #SURJ #CriticalResistance and so many others

I follow too many causes/issues so I couldn’t fit them in the above post.
#ClimateCrisis #BlackLivesMatter have been in my birdsite profile for a 8 years now for top-of-mind reasons.
I’ve copied that profile for now. But I took a hiatus in the beginning of 2022 and reset with more focus on local politics. Lurking here this week, I’ve been thinking about how to rebuild better.
#CommunityOrganizing is our foundation and greatest strength. So, what are your favorite lessons in organizing?
