okanogen VerminEnemyFromWithin<p>I know there are super <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MapleSyrup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MapleSyrup</span></a> experts out there, can folks share tips? I was not happy with the 5/16 alimunum spiles. I want stainless. I'm using bags because I think tubing will get ripped out by deer in no time. Are there alternatives?<br>And reducing, what are the options? I tried a fire and pot but lost patience and though i can get tons of firewood, it worked out to be easier to use a propane heater.... Also, i have vacuum pumps and lots of experience with vacuum bagging.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MapleSyruping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MapleSyruping</span></a></p>

More?</p>
Jasmine Mangalaseril 🧁<p>It’s my first columnaversary as CBC-KW’s food columnist! What better way to celebrate a year of exploring local foods than with maple syrup? Talked about terroir, this year’s harvest, and there’s a Salted Guinness Maple Caramel Syrup recipe that’s mighty good on ice cream! </p><p><a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/maple-syrup-season-jasmine-mangalaseril-1.7502007" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-w</span><span class="invisible">aterloo/maple-syrup-season-jasmine-mangalaseril-1.7502007</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/WaterlooRegion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WaterlooRegion</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/WellingtonCounty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WellingtonCounty</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/CanadianFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CanadianFood</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/MapleSyrup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MapleSyrup</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/LocalFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LocalFood</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/IndigenousFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IndigenousFood</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/BuyLocal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BuyLocal</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Mastonom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastonom</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Food" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Food</span></a></p>
Isaac<p>Bottled the last bit of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maplesyrup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maplesyrup</span></a> for the year. Just over 47 gallons made. A new best for me, but only due to adding more trees. Things learned, met new people. Found more opportunities for next year.</p>

Dan McCullough<p>Our maple syrup season has ended. We tapped our tree on Feb 22, which was a month later than normal. This winter in Massachusetts was consistently below 38° which is not ideal for sap flow. </p><p>We harvested 28 liters of sap which after boiling down, gave us a little over a pint of syrup. This really drives home why it’s so expensive!</p><p>Sap Totals:<br>2025 February 22 - March 23 = 28 liters<br>2024 February 1 - March 17 = 30 liters<br>2023 January 22 - March 12 = 36 liters</p><p><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/MapleSugaringMonday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MapleSugaringMonday</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/MapleSyrup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MapleSyrup</span></a></p>

Isaac<p>I was propositioned by an old lady today.</p><p>While emptying a sap tank, a car pulled up. Old lady rolled down her windows and asked "Can I ask you a question?"</p><p>"Sure!" I replied and walked closer.</p><p>She then says "You can tap my trees."</p><p>Thankfully, it wasn't a euphemism and she was just a neighbor who would be OK with me making syrup from her trees too.</p><p>So, I'll bring her some of this year's <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maplesyrup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>maplesyrup</span></a> and check out her property.
