Started this morning's hike with 39°F and pretty chilly winds. Afterwards, up to 45°F, there were random snowflakes blowing around. Strange day.

single track biking/hiking trail along side of a steep drop off covered in lichen and mosses. The trail is mostly pine needles and curves back through trees

very old remnants of the inside of a tree trunk. The stubs from early branches stick out the sides but there’s traces of them all of the way back to the middle when it was but a sapling

off-trail exploring of wetlands, bit of a mossy bog with morning light playing through the trees. you can cross it, but you need to judge footing well: is this a moss covered rock or just soft moss, is this moss covered tree trunk sturdy or mushy and decomposed?

A small bridge going up (or down, depending on your direction) between a rock and bunch of roots.The bridge is old and made from 1x3” slats or smaller, plus there’s a lot of boulders to wind between before pedaling up it. Just enough of to mess with your mind and trigger self-doubt.

deck chair (on deck) with arm rests, seat, and part of back/headrest covered in fresh snow. More snow is falling. Much more snow. Frankly it’s too much snow but they say it will turn into rain in a few hours and I guess that’s ok. Anyways, back to the chair: not sitting in that and soaking up some vitamin D any time soon.
p.s. there’s also a couple wind spinners on deck railing, they are still and slightly covered in snow from lack of wind and predominance of snow.

Good news, frogs are in the backyard pond. Skittish as hell, I had to take this from afar, and probably not totally thawed out in this 40°F weather (pond is colder).

A crow circles overhead, is it tough landing on ice covered branches? We saw a blue jay land no problem.

I mention that we haven't seen any moss with ice and within a minute find this little ball.

Kid and I went for a short hike to marvel at our ice covered world.

One of those trees that keeps its light tan leaves on through winter with ice completely covering one side of leaf and then a long icicle coming off the end

Little evergreen sapling not having the best morning, all of its needles and few branches covered in thick ice and it is bent over from the load, but luckily it is close to the ground

at the hjouse the rainbow colored 3d printed spinner is now an icicle display, all eight levels with different lengths of them hanging off

New England weather looks “pretty.”

Skiff of snow overnight then 1/4" of rain since 5am. Since temperature is hovering below freezing the rain is freezing up on everything.
