Lake Oswego Corp., owned by wealthy homeowners with properties adjacent to Lake Oswego, recently lost a years-long lawsuit over restricting public access. On the 4th of July, these entitled rich people believe they can deny public access to swimmers and boaters. However, Portland has a different idea and is planning to crash the party. Instead of having a small exclusive event, their actions will create a massive spectacle. Bring fireworks, booze, marijuana and other party favors and your favorite floating device it’s going to be lit. *2 DAYS LEFT*
From The Discourse, Cowichan area based independent media. Please take the #survey if you care about access to #wilderness areas. Mosaic is one of the worst ecocide corporations in BC & they're responsible for much #deforestation on #VanIsle & surrounding islands.

Mosaic published a survey earlier this month to gather public input on responsible recreation. The company says it will use the survey results to guide the company’s “commitment to responsible #ForestStewardship — balancing public recreation with #environmental protection.”

If you’d like to let Mosaic know what you think about opening up the gates to the private land it manages, the survey is open until May 23.

The Discourse published an article by reporter Rowan Flood covering the ongoing battle between outdoor recreation groups and Mosaic Forest Management. Mosaic manages huge swaths of land on #VancouverIsland and tightly controls access to what one outdoor enthusiast called the most impressive and “jaw-dropping” parts of the Island. I was completely floored to learn that nearly 600,000 hectares of #unceded land on the Island is privately owned and is managed by a single company.

Tomes and Talismans is the best post-apocalyptic, dystopian, educatioal series about the Dewey Decimal System ever devised: On a future Earth, we have been colonized by simple-minded, humanoid aliens called The Wipers who have destroyed our technology and our ability to communicate on a massive scale. The only way to stop the only way to stop them? Efficiently navigating a library and reading books! The more our world falls to ignorance and illiteracy, the more this silly show feels like a documentary. THE WIPERS ARE HERE! THEY’RE ALREADY HERE!!! #scifi #sciencefiction #postapocalyptic #appcalypse #publicaccess #libraries #books #reading #librarians #aliens #invasion #horror

Yes. I called this #openwashing because it used the halo of openness or transparency to block regulations that would protect the environment and climate. (Medical studies on the harms of airborne pollution could not fully open their data, for reasons of medical privacy.) Here are the #OATP items I tagged with that sort of openwashing during the first #Trump administration.

But note that #Project2025 calls for both (1) this older kind of #EPA openwashing and (2) direct, unembargoed #OpenAccess (or #PublicAccess) to EPA-funded research, echoing the Biden-era #NelsonMemo. See p 439: "Add teeth to long-standing executive orders, memoranda, recommendations, and other policies to require that EPA regulations are based on transparent, reproducible science as well as that the data and publications resulting from taxpayer-funded activities are made immediately available to the public."

But also because I want more people to feel comfortable being around me:
both the immunocompromised or carers,
and people who read lips to help with Auditory Processing Disorder, loss of hearing, d/Deafness;
or anyone who just feels more comfortable seeing whole faces.

I definitely don't understand the "I want to see your FACE" people,
but I don't generally set out with the intention of unnerving people
(until they upset me and I've tried conflict resolution skills, but unfortunately haven't fully concluded it. THEN I get ornery!)

Found 2 quiet, new to me, public access spots to go try some crabbing & shrimping real soon. I need to get some new ropes for my traps.

Both spots are less than 5 minutes apart & only 20 minutes drive from our home. The large public piers in Sooke & Sidney are way too busy/crowded for me to enjoy these days. I've been scouting for new spots to go crabbing/shrimping. Very happy to have found 2 new, isolated spots today. There was only one boater at the docks. There was no one at 2nd shore harvesting spot.
