#HappyLittleTrees5K is a virtual run celebrating Bob Ross & raising money for state park trees in several states, including MI. Every year, a few more states join.

I kept a very steady pace so I pounded out 5 miles instead of 5K. I’m currently #Running on a different stretch of #RailsToTrails due to road construction making it nearly impossible to get to my default route. I saw new dogs, none of which wanted to talk with me. Photo stats for the same run.

I don’t usually run on Friday evening. At the end of the work week, I just want to relax but weather was gorgeous, sun peeking through the clouds. I had the trail to myself save a cardinal, squirrel, & 2 turkeys.

I’m struggling with consistency after too much time not #Running. Tonight, I set my #Garmin watch to alert on max fast and min slow paces so I would be more consistent from one mile to the next. I’m so pleased with my efforts tonight.

1. Both eye surgeries are complete. I’m healing well & released from any restrictions I care about.
2. Returned to work today & was asked if I wanted to join an informal #Running accountability group. We set a goal for the month and share our runs.
3. I went for a run on #RailsToTrails & my pace wasn’t horrible considering how much time I’ve had to rest. I changed the data screens on my #Garmin watch so I can actually read the screens while running.

When I asked the doctor when I would be able to resume running and was told I would run this weekend, the tech looked incredulous that I would run in the rain.🌧️

My heart rate was crazy high so a lot of walk/run intervals to bring it down to acceptable to me levels (165 bpm avg).

I opted for a river run after dropping kiddo off at Robotics meet. I crossed paths with several other runners, two angry geese, and one indifferent🪿

Ontario Bike Trail info please

We are planning a trip to Ontario (Uxbridge) next year to visit with a friend who lives there. We are planning on several biking days while we are there. The Rails to Trails is right there, but we don't know anything about it.

Does anyone know if there would be places to stay with safe overnight bike storage along the Uxbridge Kawartha trail? With outdoor eating facilities along the way?

Or is there a better route within reasonable driving distance?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I love biking and walking on "rails to trails" paths, but it seems to me a missed opportunity to have both rails *and* trails.

What if we ran small electric #trains alongside paths at low speeds and let children operate them? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children

People too tired or disabled to walk would have an option to travel through the park, and getting the next generation excited about trains could help alleviate some of the issues we have staffing public transit.

End of the Road!

Edit for clarification.
Today's cycle ride was cut shorter than we had planned when we found the track blocked. I guess it's being worked on. So we had lunch and turned back. Total 28k

The funniest part of the ride was when we each got our cameras out at a pretty spot and I couldn't work out why my camera wasn't working as expected. I couldn't focus it, the settings had all changed... And then @StevenKennard said he was having trouble with his... And we don't even have the same model! All sorted (we had picked up each other's cameras... duh) photos to come, (maybe).

This is 14km of the St. Margaret's Bay Trail from Bike to Bean heading away from Halifax. A nice ride otherwise, a well maintained Rails to Trails surface. Apparently it's also being worked in in the opposite direction.

Shearwater Flyer Trail > Saltwater Marsh Trail > Lawrencetown Beach bike ride

The other day I asked if anyone had any suggestions for good off road bike trails in Nova Scotia, to which I got several really helpful replies. So.... As a result...

We had a great bike ride on part of the Trans Canada trail to Lawrencetown Beach from the Shearwater entry point. We went through the Saltwater Marsh area, which is gorgeous and teaming with birds. I wish I had video of it The trail is well maintained with quite a few benches along the way for any wanting to rest and enjoy the view. As it was 30.5ºC (about 87ºF), we were really glad to arrive at Lawrencetown Beach where it was cooler.

@ukuku Cool! I've only taken the amtrak a couple times, St. Paul to Chicago. Looking to do some combined rail / bicycle touring.

Do you have any recommendations for destinations I could access from lines from Chicago...Destinations which have outstanding cycle touring options readily accessible from the train depot? Especially rail trails for rural, good cycle infrastructure for cities. #amtrak #cycletouring #cycling #railTrail #RailsToTrails

We went on a great bike ride with friends yesterday. The whole thing was about 47 km (~29 miles) but took most of the day as we were out to enjoy ourselves and mostly had the power off.
There are some great biking routes in the #AnnapolisValley and some of this was on the #RailsToTrails from Greenwich to #GrandPre though #Wolfvile
Photos were taken by our friends, thanks to them for sharing!

Work continues on New Hampshire section of trail stretching from Canada to Key West

"It's a four-phase project on the Seacoast. Phase 1, which is being worked on now, is an 8-mile railroad stretch of compact sandstone stretching from Portsmouth to North Hampton.

"'We're taking an abandoned rail corridor and turning it into a useful public facility in place that people can come out, have a safe place to ride their bikes, take their kids to ride their bikes,' Bogle said. "Seniors can get out and have a beautiful place to walk and ride.""
