Standing for Palestine in Cork

A man carrying a Palestinian flag after the protest rally last weekend. I met him on Nano Nagle Bridge, and he said he comes in whenever he can, to join the weekly rally against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Cork City Walks Past Fashion Giants

Advertising goes unnoticed as people hurry past on Opera Lane, Cork.

Did you know the rugby shirt, with its bold stripes, was first popularised in the 19th century?

Near Life Experience

When you're dead, being alive must seem scary. The weight of existence, the pull of time, the endless unknowns. But step into the light, and you'll remember that you are not lost, you are becoming. Colors swirl like echoes of past lives, whispers of something greater calling you forward. This is not an end or a beginning, but a passage. A reminder that you have always been here, and you always will be. Let the light embrace you.

Through the Window: Edinburgh Reflections

A single, solitary table inside an empty office. A glass jar sits on the table, waiting for the next business to come and rent the room. Maybe a parting gift from the previous occupant?

Flying Hooves at Dawstown Point to Point

A few of the photos I took today at the Dawstown Point to Point. We’ve been very lucky in the last few years that the weather has been good when these races were held!

Evening Light on Cathedral Lane, Edinburgh

Yesterday evening, walking along a road in Edinburgh, I saw that the setting sun was casting long shadows, and as luck would have it, those make interesting subjects, especially the light and dark of sun and shadow.

Hopefully, the person in the pub was having a nice evening in there, it was lovely being out.

Golden Dawn Through the Trees

This morning, the sun rose through a beautiful orange haze. This was some 600m away through the eye of a long lens, and it looked even better in real life.

Nature’s Art: Fungi Patterns

I spotted this fascinating looking fungus growing out a dead tree trunk last weekend. I’d no idea what kind of fungi they were until an AI identified them as a Polypore.

This is a good sign, for that small forest I found them in, just outside Kenmare:

Polypores have been used as indicator species of healthy natural forests or old-growth forests in Europe. They are good indicators of invertebrate diversity on dead wood and include many endangered species. Polypores make good indicators because they are relatively easy to find – many species produce conspicuous and long-lasting fruiting bodies – and because they can be identified in the field.[

Beach Art Celebrates St. Brigid’s Day

The weather forecast for today was great, so we visited Inchydoney Beach this afternoon. While it looks like the beach isn’t busy, cars were parked all the way from the hotel down to the public car park at the other end of the beach. It would be easy to think it was the middle of the summer, as there were so many vehicles!

Yesterday was St. Brigid’s Day in Ireland, so it was nice to see St. Brigid’s Cross drawn on the sand, but I’d forgotten about IMBOLC. You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

The Yeni Camii overlooks the mall

A long exposure photo of the Yeni Camii in Istanbul, with the entrance to a small shopping mall in the foreground. Steps lead down, under a busy road, and vendors have set up shops down there selling all sorts of goods.

The Yeni Camii is also known as the “New Mosque”, even though it was completed between 1660 and 1665. It was originally named the Valide Sultan Mosque.

I wonder if that’s a drone flying overhead, over the mosque? I certainly didn’t see it while I was taking this photo.
