70% of urban trips in the Global South rely on informal transport. Why do climate plans ignore them? Required viewing!
TL;DR: Like 1990s AOL, transport data today is siloed and controlled. Open data advocates (e.g. GTFS, OSM) are breaking barriers to enable access, equity, and innovation in mobility.

The average consumption of a (gasoline) car for just a 3 km round trip in an urban area is around 5.13 kWh. To get an idea of the scale, this is equivalent to the energy required to keep a ligth bulb ON during more than 53 days.

IMHO,most people do not have a clear idea of the scale of our activities' energy consumption. Ignoring what is more relevant and what is <.In this mini-series of minitoots I will try to highlight the differences in scale through some examples:

Your mom was once restricted to the AOL ecosystem. And today transport data is being restricted by gatekeepers. And these two things are related. There’s no stopping the demand for open data.

So close! This article from India on EVs highlights youth, community, gender, justice, and decarbonization — everything but public transport!

We know a lot about what would be needed to make mobility more sustainable. However, implementation in Germany has often failed because of legal hurdles.
Thanks to a change in transport law, local authorities now have considerably more opportunities to give health, climate, and the environment more weight in transport planning!

I am truly honored to share that I have been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Professional Association for #Transport & #Health.
It is both a privilege to contribute to this incredible community at the intersection of transport and #public_health.
There's an important aspect to this World Bank report that Devdiscourse doesn't mention: Sustainable Transport Investment should include support and funding for informal and active mobility.

An Bord Pleanála has granted permission for the BusConnects Templeogue/Rathfarnham to City Centre Core Bus Corridor in Dublin. This will be a game changer for public transport reliability and the safety of people walking and cycling.
However I expect that there will be a Judicial Review challenge to this decision by people who won't countenance any inconvenience to their driving habits.
Dutch sustainable mobility consultants Mobycon recently met with Conor Geraghty of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to review the work they had done on Lower Kilmacud Road in Dublin.
There are some great insights here about how to design walking and cycling infrastructure that works for people of all ages and abilities and the benefits of introducing modal filters to restrict rat-running on residential streets.
#Quebec #MinisterOfTransport and #SustainableMobility #GenevièveGuilbault tabled her long-awaited bill on Thursday to create #MobilitéInfraQuébec, an agency for the development of #PublicTransit.
The minister said she wanted to regain control of the sector, adding that projects are being carried out too slowly, and they're costing too much.
