"In times of war, the educated class knew what to do
In times of peace, their pupils couldn't meet your baby blues
Four hundred million animals competing for the zoo
It's such a bleak sunrise

Untrue, unkind and unnatural
How the cruel, with time, becomes classical

I know that walls fall, shacks shake
Bridges burn and bodies break
It's clear something's gonna change
And when it does, which classical remains?"

So. Saw Vampire Weekend last night and thought they were great. They are now very much “post-Rostam” who left ten years ago. It was very much “a show” where they worked through all of the new album with some beloved songs. Live, they are now a seven-piece, very different to the five-person VW that toured in 2019 and reminded me in parts of the extended Talking Heads. #vw #vampireweekend

I believe Vampire Weekend is now my most extreme small-to-big spread, from "saw em in a tiny room before they were somebodies" to "saw em at the Garden."

They were on a showcase bill in a small half-filled bar in the Lower East Side playing before Apollo Sunshine many years ago. I think they were still in college. I misremembered them as Vampire Vacation when I wrote up the show for my old blog. I still think that's a cooler name.

Today: at MSG for a matinee! Vampire Weekend Sunday afternoon show.

Daytime is cool! Tons of families with young kids. Place is pretty full, I'm in the cheap seats, literally. Maybe the worst seat I've ever had here. As much as I hate to admit it, the Garden has got the livemusic thing down. A great place to see a show, miraculously hassle-free... If you can make it past the facial recognition, of course.

Pitchfork has listed the 50 most anticipated albums of spring, which include releases from Beyoncé, Vampire Weekend, Charli XCX, and the ludicrously prolific Taylor Swift. Here's what the magazine's team is looking forward to. We want to know: How excited do you get about new music these days? Tell us in the comments where you discover new artists to follow.

Day 56 of the #30MoreSongsChallenge - an emblematic Noughties song. I pick this one both for the message and the memory of trying to find some weird outdoor amphitheater on the Lower East Side where they were playing a free summer show back very early in their career.
