I made it to the #WoodMeadow in #Estonia, trip on the #SERE2024 #EcologicalRestoration conference. Huge thank you to everyone who has supported me. I'm busy writing up notes, so much information, so many contacts, so many amazing people.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to a benefactor who's made it 100% easier for me to get to the 14th European Conference on #Ecological #Restoration in #Tartu, #Estonia. Amazing line-up: https://sere2024.org/programme-info/
I will be concentrating on #WoodMeadows, human managed spaces which are amongst the most biodiverse habitats in the world.
The key question is, how can we emulate this in other places?
I'll be blogging at https://www.natureworks.org.uk/blog/
Flat out with #meadow, #WoodMeadow, #ecology and #ForestGarden work.
Here is a Wild Angelica (Angelica sylvestris), in a rhos pasture by the #HopeGarden
There should be a paint in this hue by the same name
A #WoodMeadow is a low-intensity, high-biodiversity & *productive* way to manage land.
Grants in the #UK seem focussed on capital expenditure, despite ecosystems taking years of skilled management by people. So, idea is to build infrastructure & training up-front, to provide framework for sustainable livelihoods.

How to live in balance with #nature?
In tandem with ontological shift in socio-economic systems, let's explore *what worked before capitalism*.
A #WoodMeadow is one example (think landscape scale #FoodForest #ForestGarden).
Support my trip to find out more about #WoodMeadows at 14th #Ecological #Restoration conference in Estonia.
54% of the way there! Thank you
I'm talking about the #WoodMeadow in a wider social context as a model for enhancing #biodiversity, with the brilliant Sarah Wilson on #RootsAndAll #gardening #podcast.
Same principles can be applied in a #garden - it's essentially a #ForestGarden #FoodForest.
I have a fundraiser to attend the 14th European Conference on #Ecological #Restoration https://sere2024.org/, to see & discuss #WoodMeadows firsthand. https://ko-fi.com/natureworks
@inquiline > The first step should be rethinking the very concepts of “wild” and developed” spaces alike
So very much this. It's what I find so appealing a #WoodMeadow, that's it a productive yet incredibly biodiverse space. Also, Brooklyn Bridge Park interesting as well, particularly from #NativePlants perspective
Last week I was a guest on my favourite #gardening #podcast talking about #ForestGarden & #WoodMeadow and the #ClimatEmergency & #NatureEmergency.
Talking about #GardenDesign & leaving options open for future scenarios (responsive garden design I call it), I actually managed to namecheck my favourite web designer @beep
He's proper inspirational & the reason how I came across the 2 seminal books How Buildings Learn & The Real World of Technology. Thank you Ethan
SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT
I think a #WoodMeadow is an excellent model of how human activity can *increase* #biodiversity.
Support my fundraiser to go to 14th #Ecological #Restoration #Conference to see and learn about #WoodMeadows 1st hand.
They're like landscape scale #ForestGarden #FoodForest: productive, light-touch, self-sustaining.
51% there!
We went to Coed Ty Canol again, #WoodPasture in #Pembrokeshire #SirGar #Cymru
Beautiful, sheltered from the wind, brimming with wildlife.
A #WoodMeadow is incredibly biodiverse & a model for light-touch productive land management
Support my fundraiser for #ecological #conference in Estonia this August so I can find out more first-hand with #WoodMeadows
I went on #RootsAndAll #podcast this morning to talk about #WoodMeadows. Sarah Wilson who runs the #gardening podcast is brililant, and we've known each other for a while. Bit nerve-wracking but always a pleasure talking with her.

Oh, and I have a fundraiser for a trip to #ecology #restoration conference in August, 50% there, help out if you can afford to, thank you
Ty Canol #WoodMeadow again today. Windy but in the wood, protected. A beautiful space.
I have fundraiser for learning more about #WoodMeadows at conference in Estonia in late August. Will write lots and take lots of photos too, bring ideas back to #Wales
Beautiful clumps of English Sedum (Sedum anglicum). In West #Wales. Right by Ty Canola #WoodMeadow
A #WoodMeadow is the hotdog approach to sustainable, low-impact land management that *increases* #biodiversity. Multi-functional, multi-generational, a shifting mosaic of habitats providing #sustainable livelihoods delivered with #DirectDemocracy & #Recommoning

It’s a #NatureEmergency. What’s required is a mosaic of habitat & low-impact food production, not industrial monocultures driven by profit.
A #WoodMeadow is 1 approach to #resilient & #sustainable land management providing wealth of #biodiversity.
This is Ty Canol #WoodPasture in #SirGar #Pembrokeshire. Just look at the diversity of #lichen, #moss, #trees & #habitat

A #WoodMeadow is a *model* not a *blueprint* for #sustainable, biodiverse land management. The idea is an accessible, low-impact, multi-generational space that provides sustainable livelihoods, delivered with #DirectDemocracy & #Recommoning. Think #landscape #ForestGarden.
This is Ty Canol #WoodPasture in #SirGar #Pembrokeshire , similar structure with mosaic of trees & fields

@ClimateJenny ha! I'm so nervous about it (it's on #UKelection day!) because there's so much I don't know. But what I do love about a #WoodMeadow is the human interaction aspect, and thinking that these ideas can be explored in other ways
50% of my goal of £940 for my trip to #Estonia for #Ecology #Restoration Conference end of August!
I'm going for the #WoodMeadow, a traditional, low-intensity, high-biodiversity land use. 60% tree cover, 40% herb layer. Combine with recommoning land for local communities, with direct democracy & providing #sustainable livelihoods.

#TyCanol in #SirGar #Pembrokeshire is an example of #WoodPasture, very similar to #WoodMeadow in it's glorious #biodiversity.
Help fund my trip to the 14th European Conference on #Ecological #Restoration to research & see #WoodMeadows in #Estonia https://sere2024.org/ so I can help bring them to #Cymru #Wales
Thank you
A #WoodMeadow is one of the most #biodiverse #ecosystems *in the world*, with up to 70 species of vascular #plants per square metre. Critically, “Biodiversity of the meadow ecosystems is connected to human use and it declines significantly if this use ceases” (Kull, Kukk & Lotman 2003)
Help me get #sustainable #WoodMeadows established in #Cymru #Wales, support my fundraiser to visit the 14th European Conference on #Ecological #Restoration
Thank you
