#StainedGlass #window in St Ethelbert's Church, Herringswell, #Suffolk U.K. It's a depiction of St. Hubert, patron saint of hunters, archers, and #dogs . St. Hubert (aka Hubertos) is considered to be the originator of ethical hunting behavior for Catholics. His Feast Day is November 3rd.

St. Hubert's story holds that after the death of his wife, the nobleman went to live in the woods. There, he saw a stag with a cross glowing between its horns, and took it as a sign from God.

[Window in memory of Llewellyn Sidney Davies, designed by H.W.Luxford.]

Much of the #Superman movie #ManOfSteel was filmed near me, when the small town of #Plano #Illinois was remade to become #Smallville . This window at the Plano Methodist Church was used in the scene where #ClarkKent ( #HenryCavill ) is talking to a preacher about sacrificing himself in order to save the world from Zod.

This #StainedGlass #window was used as background symbolism in that scene, because it depicts Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, before sacrificing himself on the cross for all mankind (Matthew 26:36-46).

Every year, the town of Plano hosts a Superman Celebration, and visitors can see some of the places where scenes were filmed. I was also fortunate enough to visit when the set was days away from production, and see everything that had been done to the town in preparation. (I will post those images sometime later.)

This past #4thOfJuly, I was driving around various farm roads, looking for sanctuary for my dog from the terrifying fireworks. We came across two #churches, both seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Both offered a chance for her to walk around for a bit and get a drink of water, during the almost five hours we were out that night.

One of them was Plattville #MethodistChurch in #Yorkville #Illinois. It had this beautiful #StainedGlassWindow, shining in the darkness.

I've always loved #StainedGlass.

It's very appropriate that it should be an image of #Jesus with a Shepherd's Staff, knocking on a door. I came with a #ShetlandSheepdog, seeking sanctuary-- although we never actually knocked on the door.
