PODCAST!

"Josh emphasizes the need for a new economic framework that prioritizes cooperation, well-being, and ecological stewardship.

How could we change the incentives that are embedded in our economy to prioritize the well-being of people and the planet? What would happen to our economies if we rooted them in the science of psychology, ecology, and physics?"

@rauschma Hi, did you mention recently that a TypeScript union type is limited to 25 elements? I can't find your post about it. (Searching Mastodon is a bit of a black art, it seems.) Is that true or do I remember this incorrectly?

The reason is that I am experimenting with scheme for localizations where the allowed strings to localize are elements of a union type. A limit of 25 would be really bad.

"When they spoke—at meetings, in testimony—they described a neighborhood I don’t recognize: dangerous, unfriendly, high-traffic, unpleasant. They talked about the church as an oasis surrounded by hardship. That’s not true, but to the extent that we believe it, we never seem to stop & ponder our role in it. I live here, but they largely don’t. So they share a kind of group fiction, reinforced by distance & repetition."

A healthy economy doesn't break if one big conglomerate goes down, for whatever reason.

Our economy is not healthy, but it could be. Local and Regional producers are the key to a sustainable future, not relying on exploitative food and goods shipped halfway around the world.

The caveat is that sweatshop conditions cannot be tolerated. It only works with living wages and reasonable incomes.

Food sovereignty, IMHO, means growing affordable local food first and foremost for local people, and only afterwards sending excesses to the regional or global marketplace.

That is the opposite of how predatory & extraction capitalism works - taking the best farmland and using it exclusively for export, leaving little or nothing affordable for local people to eat.

Glad I passed on buying "Abundance" at the Symposium Bookstore here in Providence.

The main premise of this book is false.

We cannot trust centralized or top down governance to make good choices for local conditions & local issues.

In fact, the opposite is true.
