#Fotofails: I had a lot of trouble getting the camera to focus on this Black Phoebe and not the tree behind it, but that wasn't the problem in this shot. I always think birds look weird when you can only see the backs of their heads.
This shot of the same Black Phoebe (after it started to fly off, then decided to just land back on another post) came out a lot better!
@kelsonv Me too. I think it's something to do with how the feathers fool the auto-focus algorithm.
I sometimes make do with focusing on a nearby object (tree branch or pole) instead, focus lock on it and then pan back to the bird.
@sohkamyung Yeah, I use the same technique. I kept trying to focus on the fence posts, but I guess the tree was more appealing to the focus algorithm.
